Iraivan Temple's Avudayar Casting

This is a piece of art by Arumugam Manivelu depicting the inner sanctum of Iraivan Temple. The base the holds the sacred 700-pound spathika lingam is called the avudayar.

Selvanathan Sthapati was at the site where the massive avudayar is being cast.

Traditional ornamentations adorn the massive base for the crystal lingam. One of the largest, if not the largest, made in recent centuries in five metals.

The wax is marked and shaped, and panchaloka metal will take its place.

The bottom portion of the peedam is being shaped by the craftsmen. Note their skilled use of wax. An amazing art.
