News from Bodhinatha in Malaysia

Bodhinatha and Shanmuganathswami have been very busy. They conducted a mini-innersearch dedicated to our members and their families. Here are some highlights from Bodhinatha’s reports:

June 5th

Om Sivaya, everyone,

Jai Ganapati.

Day began with my second class on Shum. The group took a mid morning two hour hike (trek) to a waterfall. Shanmuganathaswami conducted a morning and an afternoon class. He ran the projector from his ipad.

The trek took longer than expected, and while waiting Shanmuganathaswami showed videos to the group that stayed back various videos such as the HT quarterly report, the Iraivan update, the stone bell hole video (one of the favorites) and Fernando the Bull (for the kids.) Shanmuganathaswami’s morning session began with pranayama, the auric circle, color visualization and a projected presentation of the Pilgrim Sadhana guide. The theme of the presentations has been daily sadhana.

The afternoon session began with an introduction of the shum alphabet, shum chanting of the first 18 characters and then a brief “tyatyaba” (chit chat) getting re-acquainted and re-connected with some of Gurudeva’s older devotees who want to be part of Saiva Siddhanta Church again, their families and some friends. We counted 76 in attendance at the sessions, but Bodhinatha signed 92 retreat certificates.

Additionally afternoon games and an evening “family night” of fun which we introduced and then left.

Om Namasivaya,
Bodhinatha

June 6th

Om Sivaya, everyone,

Jai Ganapati.

Sunday morning was the last portion of the retreat at the jungle lodge. Shanmuganathaswami and I both had one class. The group played a major outdoor treasure hunt type game which was immensely enjoyed.

Shifted to Pullman Putrajaya Lakeside Hotel which is directly across from Putrajaya International Convention Centre of which Valluvan is the general manager. A different experience of Malaysia as everything in Putrajaya is brand new!

Evening visited Tirumurugan Alayam in Desa Jaya and gave a talk and darshan with Dr. Maruthu giving the Tamil translation.

Om Namasivaya,
Bodhinatha

Sun One Homa

A new phase began today with our morning homa. It is countdown phase to the 2010 Kauai Innersearch, which begins in just six days. Paramacharya Palaniswami presided over the homa, which was conducted by our new Siddhanathaswami.

Palaniswami shared his reflections on the uniqueness of Kauai Aadheenam and the gratitude we all have for this place, this special gift from Gurudeva—a place inhabited by monks all following the same teachings inside themselves; a place with a temple at its center; a place of pure and unadulterated Sivaness; a place which will always have a satguru to carry forth the sampradaya and not a board of directors, a place surrounded by a core group of sincere dedicated devotees.

Recent Visitors from UK

Two pilgrims visited recently from Chennai (last phase)

Our visitor is a UK-based law professor specializing in proprietary rights, international copyrights, and that whole field. If ever we need counsel on a rights issue, she would be able and happy to assist.

Dr. Chamundeeswari Kuppuswami, PhD, is a Lecturer in Law at the University of Sheffield in the UK. An artist and dancer, Chamundeeswari knew our artist S. Rajam well, and was with him just days before his passing earlier this year. She shared a video of him with the monks. And the monks took her on a tour de force of S. Rajam’s hundreds of works of art done for us over the decades.

Her friend, Aparnadevi, is an IT specialist in San Jose, California, and a wonderful singer.

For the first time, Iraivan temple entry is visually unimpaired. Monks removed the roof scaffolding today.
