Bodhinatha in California – Truths of the Sages

Bodhinatha spent the day in La Jolla. They had a fruitful meeting with Russ Hill, a financial advisor for Hindu Heritage Endowment. Tomorrow they fly off to Seattle.

Meanwhile Sivayogapathy from Canada has sent us these amazing quotes from the shopkeeper sage of Mumbai, Nisargadatta Maharaj.

They are strikingly close to Yogaswami’s and Gurudeva’s own mind flow. We cannot help but be struck by the awesome realization that when great souls discover the truth, it is one and the same inner truth:

Quotes of Nisargadatta Maharaj

Thus spake Nisargadatta!

To locate a thing you need space, to place an event you need time; but the timeless and
spaceless defies handling. It makes everything perceivable, yet itself is beyond
perception. The mind cannot know what is beyond the mind, but the mind is known by
what is beyond it.

Put your awareness to work, not your mind. The mind is not the right instrument for this
task. The timeless can be reached only by the timeless. Your body and your mind are born
subject to time; only awareness is timeless, even in the now.

I find that somehow, by shifting the focus of attention, I become the very thing I look at,
and experience the kind of consciousness it has; I become the inner witness of the thing. I
call this capacity of entering other focal points of consciousness, love; you may give it
any name you like.

Love says “I am everything”. Wisdom says “I am nothing”. Between the two, my life flows.
Since at any point of time and space I can be both the subject and the object of
experience, I express it by saying that I am both, and neither, and beyond both.

When the mind is kept away from its preoccupation, it becomes quiet.

Time is in the mind, space is in the mind. The law of cause and effect is also a way of
thinking. In reality all is here and now and all is one. Multiplicity and diversity are in the
mind only.

The mind craves for formulations and definitions, always eager to squeeze reality into a
verbal shape.

A quiet mind is all you need. All else will happen rightly, once your mind is quiet. As the
sun on rising makes the world active, so does self-awareness affect changes in the mind.
In the light of calm and steady self-awareness inner energies wake up and work miracles
without effort on your part.

The mind covers up reality, without knowing it. To know the nature of the mind, you need
intelligence, the capacity to look at the mind in silent and dispassionate awareness.

Ganesha Chaturthi Mauritius Part 3

We complete the Ganesha Chaturthi series of photos from Mauritius with a few photos of the Visarjana or immersion ceremony of clay Ganesha murthis at the Spiritual Park. Here is a nice youth team getting ready for the visarjana procession.

We were delighted to see hand made clay Ganesha murthis of all sizes on that day.

Participants line up and preparing to carry their Ganeshas for the procession…

Here we go… Kulapati Parmesh Pallanee and Soundiren Arnasalon lead the procession.

Devotees leaving the premises of the Spiritual Park for the village of La Pointe.

The procession coming down the main public road led by the traditional musicians.

A very large crowd but not everyone can come down the wharf due to the limited space down the water edge. Those devotees carrying the Ganeshas are kindly asked to come forward…

They lined up to leave their loving Ganesha murthis which they have worshipped for several days…

Mangai, the daughter of Mrs Vani at the Mini Mela had a Ganesha too..

One boat is already full and ready to leave…

The boats leave the waterfront for the immersion ceremony further off the ocean. A few kulapaties are on board to help conduct this last ritual.

Everyone watches the boats as they glided over the estuary which merges in the ocean reminding all present of the soul merging into its Creator, Lord Siva. The ceremony ends in fervour with bajans leaving joys and happiness in the hearts of everyone present.
