When Children Embrace Hinduism
Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami reads his editorial from the April/May/June 2011 issue of Hinduism Today magazine. “For best results in passing on your faith, present concepts as life-enhancing tools rather than life-restricting rules.” In this video, we address two big ideas: that everything affects our consciousness and that each of us is a soul, a divine being living in a physical body. Then we answer three questions commonly asked by Hindu youth: Why Are We Vegetarian? Why Must We Go to the Temple Every Week? Why Can’t I Listen to Hip-Hop Music Like My Friends?
Sun Two
We are catching up with Bodhinatha’s Sun One upadeshas. Another one was posted today (see the “Inspired Talk” link in the sidebar at right). He has been focusing lately on short, concise talks on monism and theism. Don’t miss them!
Love the Journey Executives Visit
Today the Love the Journey executives visited the monastery to share their work on our island. They are hospice and drug addiction experts opening Kauai’s first resident drug rehabilitation home.
Interestingly, they are all a one family. Father and mother, Arvin and Mellissa Montgomery, founded Love the Journey, daughter Aurora is the financial officer and the son’s wife, Bree, is the IT and PR person. Daughter Maya is just 13 and going to school.
Dedicated and competent souls all working as a family to serve Kauai’s family. Gurudeva always had the monastery help with such initiatives, and so we are working on ways we can assist their efforts.

Bodhinatha's Latest Upadesha: "Detachment from Experiences; Importance of Daily Vigil" (May 5, 2013)
All experiences are good experiences, necessary to get us here. Awareness of aspects of ourselves that are constantly changing is a liberating perception, breaking our chains to mundane areas, detaching from instinctive and intellectual to go into superconscious. The greatest challenge facing youth today is the lack of relating to the devotional side of Hinduism. Daily practice, daily vigil, moves us forward spiritually. Commentary on Merging with Siva, The Master Course, Lesson 21.
