Happy New Prime Year – End of Phase

Today we complete another phase as we enter what some are calling the Prime New Year: 2011 is a prime number. It is also a sum of 11 consecutive prime numbers, the ones found between 157 and 211.

What does that mean? It means it is really a great number and if you roast it, add a little salt and curry powder a prime number make a great snack… Ha!! just kidding. A prime number is only divisible by One and Itself. Lord Siva is the Maha Prime Number.

We wish everyone all the best and a successful 2011!

Specimen Tree Purchase and Planting complete

With the addition of another 60 lovely dwarf date palms that were planted this phase, the purchase and “installation” on the Himalayan Acres land of pre-grown specimen trees from nurseryman Scott Young is complete.

The dwarf date palms have a very lovely form, and will produce several smaller trunks from the base.

Today Acharya Arumugaswami and Scott met on Himalayan Acres to spot and locate more prime areas for planting trees which the monks will grow themselves from seed.

We will be growing hundreds of Arecas, Foxtails, MacArthur and more Dwarf date palms.

These trees will double in value after a few years of growth.

We are fulfilling one of Gurudeva’s original mandates for the monks: to create an agricultural endowment as one contribution to the long term sustainability of the monastic order.

It is an old tradition among the Aadheenams. In Karnataka Swami Balagangadharanathaswami started his whole mission as a young monk, planting coconut trees.

Here is a mature dwarf date palms that someone has purchased and placed in front of their home.
