Brahmachari Vrajvihari Sharan

When he was 11 years old growing up in London, Vrajvihari Sharan encountered Gurudeva's book, Dancing with Siva, and has longed ever since that day to visit the Aadheenam in Hawaii. Today was the fulfillment of that early yearning.

Vrajvihari Sharan is the shishya of Shri Gopal Sharan, the Hinduism Today 2009 Hindu of the Year. Brahmachari is a major force in the global work of his guruji, whose garden-like ashram, Golok Dham (www.golokdham.org), is located in New Delhi. When in India, he serves to fulfill the guru's mission. In recent years he has been a philosophy and Sanskrit doctorate student at Oxford University.

When we were in India in 2009 and again in 2014 Brahmachari hosted Satguru and Sadasivanathaswami. Those connections matured and for the past few months he has been preparing a biography of the founding guru of his lineage, Nimbarka Acharya, bringing the story with him from London today, a story that will become an Insight section in Hinduism Today next year. It is a story that has never been authentically told in the English language, since the foundational writings are all in Sanskrit, which Brahmachari had to completely translate in order to tell the story.

His short bio tells the story of his many projects and responsibilities:

Dr Vrajvihari Sharan
Part Time Lecturer in Asian Religions, University of Cardiff
Honorary Hindu Chaplain, University of Edinburgh Chaplaincy
Spiritual Advisor, Edinburgh Hindu Mandir & Cultural Centre
Trustee, Maha Lakshmi Vidya Bhavan (London)
Trustee, Shri Golok Trust UK (London)

Off to London!

Today Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami and Sannyasin Shanmuganathaswami left for a three week journey, primarily to the UK. As is customary many of the monks and local members gathered as Satguru left the monastery to offer a flower and wish him well in his travels. Swami Ramana Swaroopananda who is visiting was also there to bid him farewell, along with Brahmachari Dr Vrajvihari Sharan who coincidentally just arrived for a visit all the way from London.
