A Look Into Iraivan Day

Each month the mathavasi of Kauai Aadheenam get together and perform a group outreach sadhana called Iraivan Day. The other 3 weekends of the month is Siddhidata day where we all work outside together. However on Iraivan day we work inside on everything Iraivan Temple related. Here is a quick look at what we have been doing for decades.

This vibhuti scented letter from the Aadheenam carries many blessings from Kadavul to our home. It is our most cherished mail that we all look forward to receiving! Thank you for this Sivathondu.

Thank you to all the mathavasi’s, swamis, sadhaks, etc. of Kauai aadheenam for displaying such brilliant examples of ceaseless sivathondu. Aum Namah Shivaya!

Long before I ever heard of this order or the Shaiva Philosophy, I was well acquainted with the Zen Philosophy in my twenties. There were no resources for Hindus those days like today. I always think of this story that I read. I think it applies to what Gurudeva believed, though not in that many words.
    83. No Work, No Food
Hyakujo, the Chinese Zen master, used to labor with his pupils even at the age of eighty, trimming the gardens, cleaning the grounds, and pruning the trees.
The pupils felt sorry to see the old teacher working so hard, but they knew he would not listen to their advice to stop, so they hid away his tools.
That day the master did not eat. The next day he did not eat, nor the next. “He may be angry because we have hidden his tools,” the pupils surmised. “We had better put them back.”
The day they did, the teacher worked and ate the same as before. In the evening he instructed them: “No work, no food.”

Now that I know that this prasadam comes with the blessings of the whole monastery in such a direct, meticulous way, I am even more grateful.
Another example of the extraordinarily high bar you all set.
    Thank you.
    Jai Nandinatha Sampradaya!
    Jai Kailasa Pramaparai!
