The Tithing Commitment, part 3

Gurudeva concludes his discussion of the spiritual discipline of tithing by spelling it out in its perfect simplicity, for it is a simple practice. Though, as Gurudeva also explains, some would like to make it very complicated.

Unedited Transcript:

It is a very simple practise. The payment first - give God's money back to God.

Someone gives you $10, $1 goes to God, the rest is for you. You get a paycheck for $1000, you dont say, "Well, I cant give a $100 of the $1000, because some went to social security and others went to other different benefits as deductions." No. You give the $100.

It is a clean-cut vrata. If one takes this vrata, vow, that they are going to practise tithing, they should do so a 100% or cancel the vow and release themselves from that commitment. (And those,)It has been our experience, [those] who tithe openly and honestly, spontaneously also give 10% of their time in service. (And)Those who live beyond their means and juggle their income and manipulate don't have time to give 10% of their time for religious service. That has been our experience.

When we begin to meditate, we have to transmute the energies of the physical body. By sitting up straight with the spine erect, the energies of the physical body are transmuted.
