Kauai Aadheenam, also known as Kauai's Hindu Monastery, is a traditional South-Indian style monastery-temple complex on the mystical Garden Island of Kauai in the Hawaiian chain in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The current Guru Mahasannidhanam is Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami , the successor to Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami.
This powerful spiritual sanctuary on 458 acres of tropical lushness was founded by Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami (1927-2001) and is the home of Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami and the order of 21 swamis, yogis and sadhakas from six nations and is the Theological Seminary for Saiva Siddhanta Church.
Kauai's Hindu Monastery is also home to Himalayan Academy and Hindu Heritage Endowment. Two traditional Saivite Hindu temples are located on the monastery's 458 acres, Kadavul Temple and the new San Marga Iraivan Temple, a massive white granite Chola-style temple currently being carved in Bangalore, India, and whose stones are now being shipped to Hawaii and are now being assembled here on Kauai.
Right in the midst of the monastery complex is the renowned "Kadavul Nataraja Temple" where an exquisite six-foot tall, 250-year-old bronze image of Lord Nataraja is enshrined. Hindu pilgrims have been coming to the temple from around the world for over 30 years, to worship and seek audience and darshan with the Guru Mahasannidhanam. You are always welcome. Please make arrangements in advance.
The monks of Kauai Aadheenam live a strict lifestyle of daily religious worship, raja yoga sadhanas and service. Morning worship begins at 5:30am in the temple with an arati to Lord Ganesha and Lord Muruga, followed by a puja to Lord Siva.
Monastic life is strict but joyous, a life of renunciation but full of bliss. This daily spiritual center and activity is the anchor for the coming day of service to dedicated spiritual seekers and the Hindu world at large through books, the Master Course and Hinduism Today.
Following the daily worship at 6:00am the monks adjourn to the "Guru Peedam" for a one hour guided group meditation followed by singing, guidance from the Kartar and brief daily coordination.
Kauai Aadheenam is the CPU for an international mission that touches the lives of people the world over. After the morning sadhana period the monks will dive into a day of karma yoga activities.
