History of Reports

(report from Feb 8th, 2005)

Patrick Harrigan in east Sri Lanka shares with us: "I am herewith attaching photos taken only a few hours ago at the rented home of Tiru Navukkarasu Nayanar Gurukulam in Tambilivul, which the have just started occupying only a couple of days back. These are photos taken by me of the little ceremony we held, in which Hindu American Foundation President Dr. Mihir Meghani, M.D., stood as representing the donor agency, your Kauai's Hindu Monastery. We recited prayers in Tamil and Sanskrit, and invoked Goddess Saraswati to bless this tool (ayudham) to give the boys a good education and thereby also to serve the community."

"At present we have moved to a rented house on Main Street, Tambiluvil. Patrick Harrigan has already visited that new house and taken some photos
of the surroundings to share with you. Although that house is small, it can accommodate all 43 boys in a temporary way. Already we have 27 boys there and the others will join in the next few days. We are pleased to be resuming our normal routine consisting of worship four times daily, studies, and service. The boys are relieved that Kauai's Hindu Monastery has come forward with an immediate offer of assistance in the short term and the long term also."

(report from Feb1st, 2005)

In a conversation with Mr. Chandreswaran this morning he shared with us the following. "On February 5th between 11am and 12 noon all the boys will be moving into a rented home. We will perform a house blessing at this auspicious time then move into the home. This will allow them to get back into their daily routines of attending school, study and worship. (Photo shows the new house the boys will rent and live in for a few months. We were told by Pattrick Harrigan that the young boys were spending the whole day Thursday scrubbing the new rented house to make it neat and clean so that they can move in on Friday.) We also have 5 more new orphans whose parents perished in the tsunami bringing the total number of boys to 48. We expect the number of boys in our orphanage to grow to around 70 in the next couple of months. We are also getting engineering and architectural plans drawn up for the new orphanage building and the architects have promised to have the drawings and cost of the building ready by February 10th. It is our hope that we can pour the concrete foundation for the new building in the first week of March. Please thank all the devotees for their loving support and contributions. It makes a world of difference to us and gives us hope of a bright future. It is all happening because of Gurudeva's grace!"

(report from Jan 21st, 2005)

About 37 boys from TNG are now residing temporarily at the Swami Vipulananda Orphanage which is about 8 kms away. The rest of the boys are staying in nearby homes. Mr. Chandreswaran said they will be renting a home next week and will move all the boys to this new location. He said the boys are longing to get back into their daily routines of study, worship and social service. He also conveyed to the boys that Kauai's Hindu Monastery is receiving funds from around the world that will go towards the building of their new facility. Their response, he said, was one of unparallel joy and gratitude. He shared that the boys are truly touched that strangers from around the world are reaching out to help reconstruct their lives. They don't fully undersand why, but it is reassuring to them. Hindu Heritage Endowment, which provides quarterly grants to TNG, sent US$900 in mid-January to help meet these initial needs.
