We received a fax from Vijay Alsi this morning. He is going to India and plans to take the Dancing with Siva translation into Marathi language to a printer and publish and distribute it in Maharastra! What a great service. We wish you well, Vijay, in bringing knowledge of this great text to the millions around Mumbai and Pune. Hinduism Today is entering the fall season with a national expansion of 65 new Barnes and Nobles accounts nationwide and about 20 new Tower stores. The magazine is already in over 120 Border's accounts and will be outreaching with samples of the beautiful October Bali issue to the other 120 Border's stores around the nation. And in September some 5,000 flyers are planned to go out to retailers across North America and India. In Malaysia, despite the currency crash in Asia, our team of members in the Kepong Mission in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, are succeeding in expanding distribution and are increasing their monthly order to 900 copies and have set a goal to for distributing 1,000 copies soon. Congratulations and we hope more team players will forward to help with the distribution of Hinduism Today there. Meanwhile, in the search for educational materials to help our Gurudeva in his mission to end corporal punishment and provide parents with better tools, a revolution in public education is unexpectedly revealing itself to the monks here. If you are interested, just search "Integrated Thematic Instruction" on the web, and check out --www.kovalik.com and www.books4educ.com. Amazingly, Dancing with Sivais number 14 on the Hinduism Section Best seller list of the Barnes and Noble Cyberspace Bookstore, and, get this-- it's ahead of Autobiography of a Yogi! This web site is get hot, hot, red hot. July stats are in: Hits for the month--426,663; files sent--354,705; total unique hosts who visited--16129; and, this is the big one: total data served to browsers--6.674 Gigabytes! A lot of seekers and Dharma-oriented folks out there are using the HT site for gathering information about Hinduism. Just yesterday a chaplain in Onterio, Canada, e-mailed looking for information on the Hindu view of death. Seems he is working in a hospice there and some patients are Hindus, so he needed and got the Hindu view of death and dying.... Kudos to Ma Yoga Shakti, a testimony to her power and the strength of her personal sadhana, an early pioneer in bringing the Hindus teachings of yoga to the larger world, she continues to open new missions in UK and India.
The question of what is and who is a Hindu, while clear to the Indian government, and documented in the constitution, continues to perplex those who have adopted yoga and many Hindu beliefs. In an on-going thorough investigation by Hinduism Today, It has become very clear that ISKCON, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, is emphatically not a Hindu organization. If you don't believe it, listen to Sri-la-Sri Prabhupada's own words as he preaches against Hinduism in his own book "Science of Self Realization."
See you tomorrow. Send your hot news and gossip to "gossip@hindu.org."
