What`s Happening Today?

Last night one of the jersey cows gave birth to a black bull calf. It was such a joyous moment that the monks were immediately distracted toward the mother. How is she? Let's feed her. Let's milk her and feed the calf.

While backs were turned, the calf started running, and ran into the woods. Nowhere to be found. How could he run so far and so fast just moments after his birth? Amazing. We searched til dark and could not find him, though some thought they heard him calling for his mother in the night.

This morning after our puja and meditation, we all joined to find him. Gurudeva was driving his vahana here and there along the winding pathways. Others walked through the flowers and trees, along the ponds, calling and calling, hoping he survived the night, knowing he had not eaten yet!

Then we did find him. More precisely, one of our cats found him, lying in the ti plants near the Ganesha mound. He was broght home and penned near the big banyan tree by Kadavul Temple, safe and sound and well-fed. We had to call a vet to get some help with the mother's udder, as one of the teats was not releasing milk.

Also today we had some wonderful visitors, as our photo of the day shows. That's Gurudeva in the Mahogany Room. One among them is a leading educationalist in Singapore, and they spoke of teaching the children there, and of how Gurudeva is working with our own island mayor and her staff to bring innovative systems of training and discipline into the schools. She will do something similar in Singapore.
