August 20, 1998	The great ethical laws, the yamas, are the focus today. Here they are for your ponderings: 1 and 2 All seekers of truth shall practice the ethical restraint of noninjury, not harming others by thought, word or deed--even in their dreams. All adhere to truthfulness, refraining from lying and betraying promises. Aum. 3 and 4 All truth seekers shall uphold the virtue of nonstealing, neither thieving nor coveting nor entering into debt. All shall practice sexual purity, controlling lust by remaining celibate when single and faithful in marriage. Aum. 5 and 6 All seekers of truth shall exercise patience, restraining intolerance with people and impatience with circumstances. All foster steadfastness, overcoming nonperseverance, fear, indecision and changeableness. Aum. 7 and 8 All truth seekers shall practice compassion, conquering callous, cruel and insensitive feelings toward all beings. All maintain honesty, vowing to renounce deception and wrongdoing. Yea, they are peerless in virtue. Aum. 9 and 10 All seekers of truth shall be moderate in appetite, neither eating too much nor consuming meat, fish, shellfish, fowl or eggs. All uphold the ethic of purity, avoiding impurity in body, mind and speech. Aum Namah Sivaya.

Cybertalk: Gurudeva talks about the ethical treatment of animals. Gurudeva tells a beautiful story about how just born little cow got lost but was found by a monk lead by a cat. Gurudeva has been asked to write about the Hindu point of view on the treatment of animals. Gurudeva then speaks about the abusive treatment of many of the world's children. He mentions asuras living in such homes where children are abused. Gurudeva invites input from listeners. Peace and harmony begins in the home.
