What`s Happening Today?

Remember, life is meant

to be lived joyously. And that

means spiritual life too!

Each morning, almost daily, Gurudeva sits with the swamis and reviews all the needs and questions of members and students. This takes a couple of hours, to cover all the different countries, the many spiritual directions and all the humaneness. Once another great soul, Chandrasekhar of Kamakoti Peedam in India said after 70 years of his ministry that "I have seen every human joy, every sadness, every experience, through the devotees. Nothing is hidden from view." So it is with Gurudeva. So he has found a nice place lately to meet. There he is with Shanmuganathaswami in the Orchid Mandapam, with the Wailua River flowing a hundred feet below them in the back.

Today's guests...this is also guest Day at Kauai Aadheenam. Alas, it rained hard all morning. But, alack (ok, nonalack), it cleared up just as the visitors walked up the path to the temple. And our dozen or so guests had a sunny time after all. This is Kevin and Poonam Templar who had darshan in the morning.

Today is a happy one. Our noble Sivathondar Rajkumar Mannikam is leaving for California after three months here. We told you about him a few weeks back, but we may not have mentioned that he has been very close in the last few years.

That's Raj this morning reading yesterday's TAKA pages on the Web! Amazing! He lives here and still the pages are interesting, since it's impossible to keep up with all that happens during the day in the various areas of service and activity. He spent six more months on taskforce, then in 1995 traveled with Gurudeva on an Innersearch Pilgrimage to India, then spent 6 months serving Gurudeva at the Bangalore Temple Carving Site, and then returned here for the last three months. So you can see we are going to miss him a LOT. But knowing Rajkumar, we know Siva will be there, with him, in his every effort, his every department of life and service.

This is a brief encounter of Gurudeva with Sadhaka Thondunatha who was looking after the guests and arranging the morning visit for them. In keeping with a joyous life, we offer a joke that came to us today from a Hindu in Barbados.

Sherlock Holmes, the great sleuth, and Dr. Watson were on a camping and hiking trip.

They had gone to bed and were lying there looking up at the open sky.

Holmes said, "Watson, look up. What do you see?"

"Well, I see thousands of stars."

To which the detective responded, "And what does that mean to you?"

"Well, Holmes,I suppose it means that of all the many planets and suns and moons in the universe, that we are truly the one most blessed with the reason to deduce theorems to make our way in this world of criminal enterprises and blind greed. It means that we are truly small in the eyes of God but struggle each day to be worthy of the senses and spirit we have been blessed with. And, I suppose, at the very least, in the meteorological sense, it means that it is most likely that we will have another nice day tomorrow. What does it mean to you, Holmes?"

"To me, Watson, it means someone has stolen our tent."
