What`s Happening Today?

It is improper to ever forget a kindness,

But good to forget at once an injury received.

Verse 108 of the Tirukural

It is Sun 1 at Kauai Aadheenam, a bright, sunny October tropical day. During the retreat Gurudeva and a few swamis visited the island's Future Fair, where community groups shared their vision of how the island will grow and develop in the years ahead. Gurudeva mentions the banner we designed for the Fair, and that's it in the photo [all photos of the Fair are from Bill Peay, for which we offer our thanks as we had no camera with us!]

Way in back was a wonderful display prepared by the island's team of visionaries. Gurudeva visited, and there he is with Barbara Curl holding the Garden Island paper where the banner ended up on the front page. That's Barbara Bennet in the background and Lucy Kawaihalau, all Women of Vision.

That's our photographer Bill who showed Gurudeva a charming toy that begins as a small tight globe and in an instant bursts forth as a 30-inch globe.

The morning homa was delightful and uplifting for one and all.

This is the fire up close, an experiment in digital cameraography by Jivananda. Don't fret, everyone, the fire never got out of control!

Gurudeva speaks of the return of Yogi Tapodhana and Markandeya Senden today. That's Yogi on the right, with his brother monk, Yogi Yuganatha, to the left. Welcome home, Yogi and Markandeya.

We were pleasantly surprised this morning with a visit by a dozen or so Kauaians. There they are. Most took their morning tour in a wheelchair and they had a wonderful visit.

John Anderson and Wayne are here for three days, laying tiles in the Guru Peedam. It is a beautiful, and challenging, design.

It was designed on the computer.

And that made it complicated, but oh, so beautiful.

Nice work, Wayne! Future visitors to Kauai's Hindu Monastery will meet Gurudeva here in this lovely space, with all wood ceiling and walls, a giant full-wall fireplace at the far end (seldom used as you can imagine here!) and now Italian marble on the floor.
