"Vindictiveness comes from insecurity."
GURUDEVA
It's Sun 2 on Kauai, a bright, crisp October 22nd, with the
first coolness of winter lurking in the air today. Too beautiful! Consider the
Yellow Caribbea heliconia below, a flower that weighes about three pounds. A
little too perfect, don't you think? In the photo of Gurudeva in his Mahogany
Room today you see the tireless editing team of Acharya Palaniswami and Acharya
Kumarswami with him, working on a small network with three G3 PowerBooks. The
unusual thing about this is that all three computers are working on the same
file at the same time, each one able to make changes from his keyboard. Now
that's collaboration. They are working on the "Raja Yoga" section
of Merging with Siva.

Gurudeva gave a n important upadesha for today, about suicide. He talked of
bearing our karmas with good cheer, not letting things get us down, staying
in our superconscious center. Click the Satguru Speaks
button above to hear his entire talk. If you know anyone who has contemplated
taking their own life, this would be a wonderful message to share with them.

Today is a quiet day outwardly. The summer's flurry of visitors and pilgrims
is slowing down and the absolute tropical serenity is shining forth here. The
little cat that was mauled by a neighbor's goat and had to have hip surgery
to remove a broken socket is healing well. She is so strong, wanting to run
around even while her bones mend, so we are trying to keep her still for a week.
Jivananda captured Mount Waialeale last evening! It's the center
of our island, the source of our rivers and streams, the stuff of songs and
dreams for all who live here. It's also an extinct volcano, as this morning's
daytime shot better reveals.
THINGS TO PONDER TODAY
Readers of this TAKA page send in wonderful little tidbits now
and again. This one comes from Indivar Sivanathan in Bend, Oregon. Here are
some comedic things to ponder as you start your day:
1. How do I set my laser printer on stun?
2. How is it possible to have a
civil war?
3. If all the world is a stage, where is the audience sitting?
7. If one synchronized swimmer
drowns, do the rest have to drown too?
8. If the #2 pencil is the
most popular, why is it still #2?
9. If work is so terrific, how come
they have to pay you to do it?
10. If you're born again, do you have
two bellybuttons?
11. If you ate pasta and antipasta, would you still
be hungry?
12. If you try to fail, and succeed, which have you done?
15. Why is it called
tourist season if we can't shoot at them?
17. What happens when
none of your bees wax?
19. If the black box flight recorder is never damaged
during a plane crash, why isn't the whole airplane made out of the
stuff?
20. Why is there an expiration date on sour cream?
21. If most car accidents occur within five miles of home, why doesn't
everyone just move 10 miles away?
22. Don't sweat the petty things
and don't pet the sweaty things.
24. One tequila, two tequila, three
tequila, floor.
25. Atheism is a nonprophet organization.
26. If man evolved from monkeys and apes, why do we still have monkeys
and apes?
28. If all those psychics
know the winning lottery numbers, why are they all still working?
29. Could it be that all those trick-or-treaters wearing sheets
aren't going as ghosts but as mattresses?
30. If a mute swears,
does his mother wash his hands with soap?
