The spirit of the day is power, the great, unending, awe-inspiring power of Lord Muruga. Today is SKANDA SHANTI, and thus Murugan’s energy, lightening-swift, is everywhere. Gurudeva spoke of it after the morning homa:

"Today Lord Muruga is being worshipped by millions of Saivites in dozens of countries. It is a day of public penance, called kavadi, for the mishaps that have occurred during the year."
