Amritha Sivananda from the Netherlands called this morning to share some very interesting news from the Netherlands.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE TEACHING? SCREEN YOUR MATERIALS, PLEASE
She says recently Swami Atmanananda Giri from the Kriya Yoga Dhyana Khendra visited the Hindu community for four days. At one point he was treated to some bhajans for Lord Shiva by the group. In one of the kirtan slokas it refers to Shiva as the one who smokes cannabis, of "Bhang" in Hindi.
Swami asked: "What are you teaching your children?! You should realize that such references by inference teach the children it is OK to smoke drugs. It is very important to screen the materials that are used in teaching children in the Hindu school, songs and stories included."

AMRITHA AND OHM TAKE HINDUISM TO THE AIRWAYS
On a more personal note Amritha says she has been hired as a researcher and interviewer by the Organization for Hindu Media in the Netherlands. This is a foundation with the media name OHM which conducts a Hindu radio program for 1 hour on Sunday with mostly religious content, a 1 hour program on Monday with more cultural content and a half-hour Hindu TV show on Sunday. Congratulations to Amritha and to OHM for taking Sanatana Dharma into mass media.
