Gurudeva spoke after our morning arati about the kulams working hand-in-hand as a one team within the monastery. He stressed how each kulam helps the others and the importance of each member of the monastery being interested in what everyone else is doing. He wanted the mathavasis to never allow themselves to be segregated.

Gurudeva then spoke about having an open mind in setting objectives and goals in life. He said to always look ahead, always be positive that objectives wanted will be met. He told us that these achievements happen in the mind, or donÍt happen if the mind is small, closed, negative or unable to see and accept the possibility. If the mind is closed to positive change, the devas canÍt work with us to achieve them, for that would be against our self-imposed karma and they would be interfering with things.

New! Satguru Speaks Again!

Today's Cybertalk: If you don't want to feel guilty, don't miss part 2 of Gurudeva's talk on Sin & Guilt. Gurudeva will illuminate you on the source of guilt, and he will give a way for you to relieve some of the long-held guilt you may have for sins you were involved in perhaps long ago. That is the subconsious purification through fire: Vasana Daha Tantra.

Gurudeva explained that sins arises from going against dharma or doing adharmic things. One major example that Gurudeva had given is about weapons of killing that scientists are making, it sins against humanity and the planet because of it's devastating consequences. Husbands and wifes not fullfilling their dharma, it's consequence is not having a happy prosperous family, sins against society and others.

Therefore it is the consequence that we should be worried about. Conscience comes in the form of guilt and the word guilt is attached to the word sin. If you feel guilty about doing something then you have done a sinful thing. Sanatana Dharma has many ways of getting rid of sins and is by doing prayascitta or penance sincerely and unless prayaschitta is done with vigor the bad karmas will be locked in the subsconscious mind and become very disturbing. Gurudeva also explained that there are no mortal sins accrued because of birth. However, there are sins that one has accuMulated from past lives. We created those sins by going against the Divine Law, Dharma. Gurudeva concluded that every cause has it's due effect.

This was Sun 3 at the monastery, and we held our traditional Publisher's Desk meeting with the team. Under Gurudeva's guidance we worked out the contents of the March issue of Hinduism Today, which will have some great articles on spices (big business in New York, it turns out), Hatha Yoga, one woman's healing powers are affecting hospitals in America, the opening of Didi's temple in India (wow, do these devotees know how to celebrate their Gods!)

Our visitors today are originally from Trinidad (the husband) and Guyana (the wife). They heard Gurudeva give a talk in the temple.

What sweet smiles! Cy Mahavir and Devi Mahavir, welcome. The couple was married just one week ago and came to Kauai for their honeymoon. They subscribe to Hinduism Today is now settled in Orlando, Florida.

Gurudeva spoke to them of their marriage, of their shared spiritual responsibilities and of the husband's special responsibility in seeing to his wife's happiness and care, her contentment and security. If he takes full responsibility, the marriage can succeed. He also urged the to follow the sadhana, the spiritual discipline, of settling all their conflicts and disagreements, hurts and concerns before going to be each night.

Our priest from Fiji is leaving today, strengthened by his several days here and by Gurudeva's support of changes in the care of priests in Fiji. Safe journey home, Tirthadeva!

As most of you know, the monastery is on it's two-week retreat now, called Sadhu Paksha. Here is how it was explained recently"

SADHU PAKSHA AT KAUAI'S HINDU MONASTERY Sadhu Paksha begins on November 29 and ends on December 16. This is a time when the monastery is closed to visitors. The Wailua Mission members are welcome to come for pujas, but there will not be Sun One homas or Sun Five talks. The monks will have minimal contact by telephone to the outside world, although email contact will continue. During this time the matavasis are working on 10 pages of maha vasana daha for every year they have lived (a once in a lifetime opportunity), the same sadhana given to the members. One or two have completed the first ten years, but it is a real sadhana to remember 10 pages of memories for each year. Some of the things that come up are listing the names and situations with relatives, friends, teachers, TV programs, ads on TV, news events, places where lived, pets and their names, hobbies, summertime play, kids at school and their names, school parties, events at school, toys, cars your parents owned, accidents, birthday parties, holidays, neighbors, religious training, each brother and sister, differences between then and now, heros, illnesses, corporal punishment, strangers, embarassing moments, things your parents told you to do you didn't want to do, food, rooms in your house and the list goes on and on.
