December 5, 1999 - Chitra

Today's visitors are Srinivasan (on the left) and Prakash Kumar. Srinivasan has lived in the US for the past year and a half. He is a software consultant, destinations.com in Seattle, Washington.

Prakash Kumar is from India where he owns an automobile parts company. this is his first trip to America and his first darshan of Gurudeva.

The interesting story is that they are childhood friends, and today's trip was planned long ago, one flying from India and the other from America to meet at Gurudeva's feet on Kauai. They read Hinduism Today and visit TAKA regularly too. Welcome, to these two bright souls.

Our visitors were so generous, carrying armsful of gifts from India for the monastery, which they lovingly presented to Gurudeva in the Kadavul Temple.

Gurudeva continued to speak about attracting prosperity by having an open mind. Don't limit oneself by closing the doors for it would only disrupt the flow. By setting one's goal it should be realistic. We should know for sure that we can attain the goal with the same effort that we put in.

This way we can measure how far we are in our progress and strive to put even more effort to see it a success. When we are in a group rather than concentrating on individual goals the group success becomes the priority. It actually works hand in hand. The individual helps the group, the group helps the individual. Thus even if one is not doing the job, the other departments or family groups benefits when their goals are supported by members of other family groups.

This then creates a strong magnetism that opens the door for success and the entire organization flourishes.

DATELINE WAILUA, HAWAII DECEMBER 4, 1999

On a remote little island in the Pacific Ocean, the long-awaited Loha Guha construction project began, to the amazement of the world. Well, the small world of mathavasis and members on Kauai anyway.

The large steel panels are being assembled by a competent team of local builders who arrived early to get a start on the day.

They are bolting together the long, arching pieces, which will then be lifted into position (check TAKA tomorrow for that).

One monk thought this looks like an aerial photo of a stadium. the building itself will measure 40 by 60 feet, and was a gift by two great families: the Vel Alahan family gifted the steel itself and the Deva Rajan family contributed the costs of clearing and pouring the 6-inch-thick concrete foundation and entry aprons. They will be happy to see this finally going up.

Loha Guha means "Iron Cave" on Sanskrit. It will be used to store and protect the 3,000+ stones when they arrive from India. To keep them out of the damp tropical weather until they are fitted at the final Iraivan Temple site.

It takes 8,000 stainless steel bolts to make the entire building! Here they are opening the holes a little to make bolting easier.

Close up of the bolting process. Don't they need hydraulic tools?

Taday the Ganapati Kulam printed out 10 covers of the second edition of Loving Ganesha, a popular book that is in its second edition now, with new art throughout. These will be used for introducing the book to special book buyers in the US

Also, two full pre-publication galleys were produced for reviewers.

From New Delhi a package arrived from our publisher there. He sent Gurudeva about 15 pages from the new edition of the Tirukural he is printing, in full color. They are such high quality we could hardly believe they were printed in India! This is going to be a very special book indeed.

A close up of one of the pages. This is from the chapter called Possession of Courtesy

Kuralæ991

They say if a man is easily accessible to everyone, the virtue of courtesy will be easily accessible to him.
