This morning Gurudeva gave us the wonderful advice of never mentally criticizing others. It's so easy to find fault with someone, and so much harder to correct oneself. Still, on the spiritual path, we must learn that difficult art. Remember, even if you criticize someone, they are not necessarily going to change. Only if they are open and receptive to your sincere observations or corrections will they change for the better. So most of your criticisms in life, if you are a critical person, affect you more than the other person.

Gurudeva gave the remedy for thinking not-so-positive thoughts about others. Instead of mentally criticizing someone, be grateful. Being grateful is a soulful quality, therefore be grateful and show appreciation for the nice things that people do for us. Show appreciation and also express it verbally and often. Fill the critical mind with posssitive observations and with thanks for what we do have, for our family and friends, our health and all the many things that are constantly showering down upon each of us from Siva Himself.

See all the nice things in a person. If critical thoughts fill the mind, thank the person who provoked those thoughts, because they have taught you something. They have taught you not to do what they do.

Gurudeva has learned a lot by observing people. He said, "Some people taught me what to do and others taught me what not to do".

New! Satguru Speaks Again!

Today's Cybertalk: You'll be grateful to Gurudeva for this message. It's about Criticism Versus Gratitude. Gurudeva instructs us to turn our mental criticisms around by being grateful for all the good that we have, and for the goodness that is within us. And he reaffirms that goodness really is there in each of us, resident in our soul nature.

It's a sunny Sun One at Kauai's Hindu Monastery. December 17th and we are in the midst of 30 days of Markali Pillaiyar, with intense worship of Lord Ganesha.

The homa this morning was blessed, and Gurudeva welcomed Aran and Valli Sendan and Ananta Palani to sit with him at the sacred fire. Ananta is here from Reno, Nevada, where hs is engaged in a dynamic digital job, designing interactive CDs for a high-end company in Nevada. he will be on the island for a month. Welcome, Ananta, Aran and Valli!

We paraded to the Iraivan Temple site for worship.

Remember, you too can spend 10 glorious days with Gurudeva on the Caribbean Innersearch Travel Study program leaving Florida in late April and sailing all the way to Trinidad and tobago. Come along!

Aftewards all joined in as we removed the clear plastic and burlap that has protected the concrete for the past few months.

The BIG QUESTION was whether underneath we would find a flawless foundation or the more normal one with cracks. The answer seems to be no cracks at all.

A perfect foundation, which our engineers find amazing for they expect cracks in a pour this size (4 millions pounds!) to have cracks big enough to place your fingers in.

Not here. not even a hairline fissure! Everyone is rejoicing as we pull aside the plastic and see the surface for the first time.

Gurudeva cracks a coconut to mark the end of the short pilgrimage to the Siva citadel.

He spends some time with Ananta, explaining about the foundation that Ananta is seeing here for the first time, though he did see photos on TAKA from Nevada. Nice kurta outfit, Ananta!

Then back to the monastery through Rishi Valley.

A nice e-mail came from an academic in Europe, which we thought our TAKA visitors would enjoy today:

APPRECIATION FOR WEAVER'S WISDOM Would you please be so kind as to render my deepest respects and love to Gurudeva & the Swamis for "Weaver's Wisdom"

-

I have ordered several copies from Amazon.com to give away in addition to the one I so deeply treasure for myself. It is a masterpiece, a vade mecum absolute, a source of endless wisdom and enlightenment - such a precious thing to have in English.

Dr J. J. Gordon Germany

Our visitors today were Pankaj Agarwal and his wife and children, Vivek (age 17) and Rishi (age 14). They are originally from Rajastan, India, now residing in Riverside, California.
