Gurudeva was asked by a local lady who is responsible for a major fund-raising event on Kauai to send his blessings and open the days event. It's a Mini Indy Race, with 25 small cars racing and thousands of islanders watching and supporting good causes. Gurudeva asked Skandanathaswami to attend this morning, to open the event with some high-energy Sanskrit mantrams.

Nanthakumar (in the center here) zand our 14-year-old Vigneswaran also went along, taking a traditional oil lamp (kuttuvillaku) in the ancient India manner. The organizers also asked for no rain, and though it's only 10:30am as this is being composed, so far the skies are dry. Not clear, but dry.

It's Saturday at Kauai's Hindu Temple, and Visitor's Day. About 30 wonderful souls came for the 9am to noon tour. They were not required to haul anything, but grabbed a nearby wheelbarrow to show friends and family their helping-hands spirit.

Rishi Thondunathan gave them the Big Tour. A beautiful walk around the rim of our Nani Kaua Valley, over to a pavilion that looks straight down into the pond, plus time in the temple for prayers and puja.

On today's Satellite News which is an e-mail report for Church members, we found this lovely testimonial written by a recent visitor who came for the first time to Kauai, describing her experience to her family back home. It's a lovely glimpse into what a visitor sees here and we thought you would enjoy her descriptions: Hello Family -- I've been meaning to write about our visit to Gurudeva's temple in Kauai, Hawaii during our honeymoon, but have not found the time before this. Gurudeva (I always forget how to spell his full name; his followers publish Hinduism Today and books through the Himalayan Academy -- I am a big fan of his Loving Ganesa book) has a lovely temple in Hawaii. They have about 50 acres of land, and they have started construction on a new, big temple. The stones for the temple are being carved in India, and shipped to the US. They estimate that the temple will take 8 - 10 more years to build. They have a beautiful 700 pound, 4 foot tall crystal that is naturally in the shape of a lingam; this will be used for the Shiva murthi in the new temple.. One of the priests gave us a small crystal that was from the same mine as the lingam as a wedding gift; it has a treasured place in our puja room now.. The present temple is small, but very pretty. The walls are natural stone. The central deity is a murthi of Shiva dancing; Ganesh and Murgan are on either side. A large Nandi (bull) is in front of the temple. When we went, we were the only devotees there (which is quite a change -- I'm used to seeing the temple as a busy place). The priests did an aarti (spelling?) for us, and then one of the priests showed us the temple grounds. The temple is in an absolutely beautiful location, overlooking a state park and a river. It was so quiet there that the birds seemed noisy! The temple grounds are lush, full of tropical plants and flowers. The air smelled so strongly of flowers. If anyone is going to Hawaii, I recommend stopping at the temple. In a few years, we would like to spend a week doing service at that temple and enjoying the quiet and beautiful views. Gurudeva was travelling, so we did not have a chance to meet him. I'll just have to persuade Seshan to go back! -- Jiya
