It's Sun 2 at Kauai Aadheenam, and the sky above is clear and blue and ever so beautiful! We loved the eyes photo so much from yesterday that we are posting them again.

As we said on Sun 1, Everyone speaks of the grace of the Satguru's Feet, but the eyes of a great soul have their own gracious gifts, like a direct encounter with our soul.

New! Satguru Speaks Again!

Today's TAKA talk will be a part four of Gurudeva's Skanda Shasti talk on Lord Muruga.

A big aloha to Mohan and Srilakshmi, our pilgrims to the island this morning. They are from San Jose.

Our grounds team is busy today with planting Mondo Grass around GurudevaÍs office. They cleared a lot of overgrown plants last week, and now they are beginning a landscaping project to renew and beautify the area.

It's a bit warm in the tropical sun, so they have their heads covered to avoid sunburn....that's Diksha Kandar in the back, blissful to be on Kauai after many years.

Redwood Forest in a Box Arrived Today

The monks would like to extend a warm thank you to Kulapati Vel Alahan of Colorado who just gifted 50 beautiful, healthy saplings of the coastal rewood tree to Kauai Aadheenam. The coastal redwood, or Sequoia sempervirens, is the tallest tree on Earth. Native to the coastal area of northern California and southwestern Oregon, the redwoods occupy a narrow strip of land approximately 450 miles (724 km) in length and 5 to 35 miles (8-56 km) in width.

With these newly arrived and very healthy saplings from Colorado, the monks hope to establish a small forest of redwoods on the Aadheenam property, possible somewhere near the already existing rudraksha forest.

Redwoods Wow! What a tree this is, thousands of years old and hundreds of feet tall, the world's tallest we are told. Good to think carefully about where to put those innocent looking six-inch-tall seedlings seen above in the box!

For a glimpse of the strange and virtually ununderstandable language used by scientists, check out this paragraph which takes the lovely redwood tree seen on the left and reduces it to something less than poetry.

Tree to 60-100 (110) m tall and 300-460 (900) cm dbh. Trunk much enlarged and buttressed at the base and often with rounded swellings or burls, slightly tapering Crown crown conic and monopodial when young, narrowed conic in age, irregular and open. Bark red-brown, to ca. 35 cm thick, tough and fibrous, deeply furrowed into broad, scaly ridges; inner bark cinnamon-brown. Branches downward sweeping to slightly ascending. Twigs slender, dark green, forking in a plane, ending in a scaly bud. Leaves 1-30 mm, generally with stomates on both surfaces, the free portion to 30 mm, those on leaders, ascending branchlets, and fertile shoots divergent to strongly appressed, short-lanceolate to deltate, those on horizontally spreading to drooping branchlets mostly linear to linear-lanceolate, divergent and in 2 ranks, with 2 prominent, white abaxial stomatal bands. Pollen cones nearly globose to ovoid, 2-5 mm, borne singly on short terminal or axillary stalks. Female cones 12-35 mm long, elliptical, reddish-brown, with many flat, short-pointed scales; pendant at end of leafy twig; maturing in one season; with 2-5 seeds per scale, light brown, 2-winged. Seeds flattened, 3-6 mm, leathery. 2n = 66 (4, 5).

Does that sound like a tree to you? Hmm!
