REPORT: Dearest Gurudeva, prostrations to Your most holy lotus feet
Today, April 2, 2000, we held another Book One Children's class in the San
Diego Mandir. Our lesson today was based on pg. 54, "Our Traditional
Instruments are the vina, tambura, cymbals, drum and flute."
Report:
Usha Devi and I
ask the family who sing bhajans at the Siva puja on the first Sunday of every month to come as guests to our class and teach us all to sing bhajan properly. We
all
practiced "Ganesha Saranam" gradually adding clapping, harmonium, drums and
cymbals until our hearts were as full as our orchestra.
Click here to sign the Guestbook and we will send you a free issue of our global full-color bi-monthly magazine, Hinduism Today.

THANK YOU, GURUDEVA!
For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.
Proceeds from this fund are forever, not a one-time gift, so gifts to this fund have an eternal gratitude built into them. They live on, in perpetuity.
Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund, to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, or traveled or just talked with him, over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.

GURUDEVA'S VISIT DISPELLS CARIBBEAN MYTHS
By Anil Mahabir
Trinidad
A middle-aged woman from Iowa, an exuberant member of HINDUISM TODAY'S
"Innersearch 2000" Caribbean journey, took the microphone at the Maha Sabha
afternoon segment of Gurudeva's one day stop over in Trinidad and shouted,
"I have been to Alaska on the last cruise with Gurudeva and now I have come
to Trinidad and I have found Hindus!" She then clenched her right fist and
raised it in the air.
Obviously, she was surprised at the fact that a Caribbean island- a
region normally promoted in the western media as banana and beach
republics,- contained
such a significant and pervading Hindu presence.
. . . .with Indians and Hindus, looking like and doing the same things Hindus in India do.
The visit of Grurdeva and his Innersearch entourage shattered a profound
myth which is often used to stereo-type Hinduism and its adherents in this
land and by extension, to propagate Christianity as the only universal
religion in the country...and that is, the myth that Hinduism is a religion
practiced only by "illiterate," "dark skinned" and "socially backward"
ethnic East Indians, confined to rural, under-developed districts here in
Trinidad and to remote villages in India.
Here we had a Hindu spiritual leader and Guru who was white, an American
with an Ashram and monastery in, of all places, "aloha country" in Hawaii,
a non-Indian Hindu who also encouraged a Temple in the far off tundra in Alaska, a
computer literate Hindu sage whose following includes many non-Indians!
Gurudeva's words have been reassuring. At the Chaguramas
Convention Centre during the morning session of his one day visit, he waxed
philosophically: "Where is the Internet?" he asked. "Is it here? Is it
there? Where is it? Is it not everywhere? The Internet is like Hinduism, it
is here, there and everywhere," he said.
Gurudeva made it clear, Hinduism is alive and it's kicking. Like the Internet
these days, Hinduism is everywhere.
And, you can take this to the bank."
The innersearchers were all impressed with Half Moon Cay Island. Our monks said: "We never saw such beaches, the sand was so fine and pure white and clean."
Sadhaka Dandapani takes a breather. . .he has been working for several months to get this innersearch pulled together and then managed much of the on-board activities, running here there and everywhere taking care of detail after detail. . .now time for a short break.
Half Moon Cay Island view from the boat.
The ship was exquisitely appointed.
One of the innersearchers, Kanda Alahan, is a master craftsman who has for many years made wooden "Tiruvadi" i.e. sandals that represent the feet of the Guru. Here he takes this opportunity to make plaster molds of Gurudeva's Feet.
Now Kanda will be able to carve the sandals "exactly to specifications."
Mrs. Sundar--Thilaka
The senior hostess on the ship and social director, Appalonia, who is a serious study of Yoga. She was very appreciative of Gurudeva's presence and made special efforts to see that everything went well for all the innersearchers. Gurudeva gives her a shawl.
At the last evening dinner the Balinese crew members sing a farewell song in their native Indonesian language.
Gurudeva blesses the Balinese crew with vibhuti, gives them a copy of "Loving Ganesha." right in the middle of the dining hall on the last evening aboard.
Innersearchers all come forward to thank Gurudeva.
Testimonials and appreciations for a wonderful experience.
More sharing by all. There were a lot of tears and heartfelt realizations that these few days together had changed their lives forever.

Turning around and facing west from the monastery,
we have a view of the river at sunrise.
One of our cats, Ardra, takes an interest in how
her breakfast is being prepared.
Dr. Noajee of Beau-Bassin visited the Spiritual
Park recently.
And so did this very fine couple. The TV coverage
in recent weeks has made many people aware of the
Spiritual Park's existence.
The Varlet and Attungue families of Quatre-Bornes
visited and showed a lot of interest in Hindu
philosophy and meditation.
This fine family, the Ponnusawmys from Port-Louis
came to visit twice recently.
This Sathya Sai Baba satsang group came to sing
for Ganesha.

What a lovely sound!
This wonderful family has agreed to continue helping us on the first Sunday of
each
month for the next several months. We have a vina player lined up for the
first Sunday in May.
