Title: Sivaratri Part 1
Category: Meditation and Yoga
Duration: 3 min., 56 seconds

On Mahasivarathri, the Saivites all over the world are worshipping Lord Siva. The one day of the year, where the Saivites come forward to worship Lord Siva.

There are very few rules for worship. One is that, you give your whole heart and soul to Siva. If you don't know how to do that, another rule is, you enter into the temple of Lord Siva's sanctum or attend the ceremony out-of-doors, in humility and awe. And, then the magic will happen. Lord siva will take your heart, take your soul and realize Himself in you.

Beautiful Saiva Siddhanta philosophy - You take one step to Siva, Siva takes nine steps to you. If you come to Siva on this night and you are confused, you are unhappy, you are sad, everything has gone in the opposite direction than what you expected throughout the year. . . the energy of the unhappiness, the energy of the sadness is pure energy coming from Siva. And, the magic that you can make within yourself is to realize yourself as energy. Rather than being the confusion, being the unhappiness, and holding many regrets.

The electricity flowing through the coil into the television set, lighting the light, makes many pictures come on the screen. Good pictures, bad pictures, happy pictures, unhappy pictures. It doesn't affect the light. Nor does it affect the energy making the light.

One of the gifts Lord Siva freely gives to every one of his devotees, is a new identity. When Siva realizes Himself in you, you have a new identity. You see yourself as pure energy coming from Siva, as light of the mind is coming from Siva. When Siva realizes Himself in you, you can sit quietly without thoughts entering your mind, and feel the presence of Siva within you, as absolute peace.

The entire Universe is held together by a plasma. The entire Universe is held together by prana. That prana is emanating out of Siva, that plasma is emanating out of Siva, every minute of every hour of every day. Your new identity is - You are a perfect, beautiful soul, made of quantums of pure energy and light. Once you accept your new identity, you will realize that your soul body, anandamaya kosa, lives in the astral body. The astral body is the mover of the physical body.

Once you realize yourself as a pure, untarnished soul, you will realize that you have a tool, which you call the intellect. You have emotions. You have feelings. Because the mind is very complex, so are the emotions, so are the feelings. Your personal magic is to realize daily that you are a soul. Keep every reminder of your true identity. People will tell you have a name. People refer to you as a physical body. People will tell you that you have responsibility. All that may be true, but that is not the real you.

Natarajan and Anasuya get a copy of Merging with Siva which Gurudeva signs for them.

Yesterday we had a small interesting group hosted by Sannyasin Saravanannathaswami and Sadhaka Mahadevan. On the right are Natarajan and Anasuya (who came back today to see Gurudeva). Second from the right in the back is Neil and his wife Billy (kneeling, left, in grey suit). They are from Chicago and Billy is a Native American. In the middle in the back is Shan, a devotee of Gurumayi who is planning to move to Kauai.

Sadhaka Tyaganatha brings all the offerings of the morning from the homa to the Feet of Lord Ganesha.

It's early mango season again and young green mangoes have been harvested for pickling.

First they are cut up, salted and spiced and then put out in the sun.

The three monks and Kulapati Koulagan Moonesawmy of Saint-Julien Village/Union-Flacq celebrated homa on the morning of sun one (the first day of our current lunar phase). Then Kulapati, his family, Kulamata Seedha Lutchmee and 11 year-old, Sivakavinian (pictured here) and other disciples of Gurudeva attending the homa were invited into the monastery to call our spiritual home, Kauai Aadheenam, in Hawaii. We conversed with Sannyasin Saravanannathaswami and heard inspired news of current projects and future plans. Question: how can you tell the devotees of Gurudeva in a crowd? The bright eyes and happy smiles, of course. AUM AUM...

Later that morning the monks spent a couple of hours manicuring the beautiful grove and gardens around the Panchamukha Ganapati Mandapam. Here are Sadhakas Haranandinatha, left, and Adinatha loading up some mango leaves.

A great way to start the day. That is the rising sun shining on Sadhaka Haranandinatha there. In the foreground are ti plants imported some years ago from Kauai Aadheenam.

In the meantime, our "task-forcer" Brahmachari Rajadeva Alahan was occupied sanding the gigantic railings leading to the Mandapam. They have weathered a little and are being prepared for refinishing with a very strong varnish.

Brahmachari is a highly concentrated and productive worker. When he gets into his work, he gets into it!

THANK YOU, GURUDEVA

For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.

Proceeds from this fund last forever; they're not a one-time gift. So gifts to this fund have eternal gratitude built into them. They live on in perpetuity.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, traveled with him or just talked with him over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.

This page is updated every day at 5:30pm Hawaii Standard Time.
