Today, the last day of the phase brought a large group of enthusiastic guests. Ten bright souls got books which Gurudeva signed.
Cybertalk: Following in the spirit of the enthusiastic book signing and sales of Merging with Siva today, we present Gurudeva's suggestions for how to study this life-changing book. Gurudeva also discusses how the study of Merging with Siva ties in with the study of Dancing with Siva and Living with Siva for a lifetime of spiritual nourishment for those so inclined. Gurudeva says, "There are many ways to merge with Siva; there's a lot of merging along the way...." For more information about the sound clips and to hear them in other formats, click here.
Today's Past Talk TranscriptionDate: March 09, 2000Title: Sivaratri 2000, Part 3 Category: Meditation and Yoga Duration: 4 min., 16 seconds Humanity is fighting unsolvable wars - through hate, misunderstanding, lack of dialogue, competitive words - which have become businesses. The only final solution within the home, (within) the county, (within) the nation, (within) the international community, the only satisfying solution is that both sides of the dispute find that they are the winner. Beyond the simple everyday mind, Siva has given a superconscious intelligence available to every one, to reach up high within himself and find solutions to unsolvable problems. Lord Siva's philosophy is that problems are meant to be solved. They are an exercise for our spiritual growth. Problems are not to be lived with. They are mental battles within ourselves. They are to be solved and once the facts are all known, the solution is obvious. On this most holy night of Lord Siva, where Saivites around the world gather, in nearly every country of the world, thinking of the Highest within them, the group helps the individual and the individual helps the group. Lord Siva has another magic that He has given to His devotees and that is the power to take the negative vibrations of the world in through themselves and turn them into positive creations that benefit all. Siva has given a great power to His devotees to influence by example, with few words, and Siva's great boon to His devotees is - You come one step, Siva will come nine. (And) This is easy for Lord Siva to do. Very easy for Lord Siva to do. Because Lord Siva lives within you. The source of the energy of your body, the source of the energy of your intellect, the light that lights up your thought - all come from Lord Siva. The great philosophers have clearly discerned that Siva has created the Universe, preserves the Universe and can withdraw it into Himself. But there is one thing He cannot do. With all His great power, He cannot take Himself out of you. Skeptics postulate, "If Siva is within me, why do I have to go to the temple?" If you are a good Siva bhakta, you do not have to go the temple. But, Siva bhaktas, those who really worship Siva with their heart and soul, are very hard to find. Going to the temple is a rarified vibration, that lifts your consciousness into Siva-consciousness. The great philosophers and the skeptics all know that it is not always easy to maintain Siva-consciousness with our daily duties, our inter-relations with our friends and family, our entanglements of the lower mind. Siva-consciousness escapes us. We are conscious of other things. This is why the Saivite who is on the path, tears himself away from the mundane world every Friday and goes to the temple. Tears himself from the mundane world with great effort and takes a pilgrimage once a year to a far-off temple. A Saiva Siddhantin on the path cannot live without a temple. The temple can live without the devotees, but the Saivite devotee cannot live without a temple and a home shrine, which is the extension of the temple. One guest said: "You have such a magical place here, no wonder you attract such magical people!" We had a wonderful couple from Atlanta Georgia join us: Mr. Ram Sidhaya and his wife. Ram is president of SQM/400, Inc., but more interestingly he is a Hindu who keeps a shrine room in his home and worships there every day. He heard about the temple and thought it was on the island of Maui, but finally found us on the island of Kauai. Here he sits with Sannyasin Sivakatirswami and Sadhaka Dandapani. Ram subscribed to Hinduism Today, today. Some Chinmaya Mission devotees also came today and brought some books for Gurudeva. The special moment in the temple, just prior to the opening of the curtains when the many-tiered lamp offering (alankara dipam) is waved before Lord Nataraja. Sannyasin Guhanathaswami takes care of malas (strands of prayer beads) for Gurudeva. Here he is making some repairs. An exquisite rudraksha mala along side a special necklace of Hawaiian seeds. A massive sorting out, throwing away of years of old software disks is underway by our computer maintenance and network administrator team of Sadhaka Japendranatha and Sadhaka Jivananandanatha. Thank you! We couldn't do it all without you! Today is Aran Veylan's birthday in Edmonton, Canada. Both his sons, Devasiva and Saravan are here at the monastery on a six-month stay.
