Today's Video

Gurudeva explains where we are in the cycle of yugas.

Cybertalk: A healing touch practitioner asks Gurudeva about the chakras in the arms. Gurudeva explains briefly that the 21 main chakras (described in Merging with Siva) are the primary chakras of the body and soul. Gurudeva tells us that the acupuncture points throughout the body are like lesser chakras, and they are connected to the main ones.

Title: Mental Illness
Category: The Mind
Duration: 2 min 19 seconds

A cyberspace devotee from Canada asks about mental illness. "What is mental illness from the Hindu perspective?"

Mental illness from the Hindu perspective is a money making coined word from the Western perspective that really works in creating a fortune for those that try to heal mental illness. From the Hindu perspective the subconscious mind is the repository of all thoughts, moods, feelings and emotions that pass through the external mind and the subconscious mind can be relieved through right thought, right speech, right action not only done by the individual but by those around each individual. The eternal truths of the Sanatana Dharma: the existence of an all pervading Force which pervades all of us and the universe, the existence of the laws of the three kinds of karma and the knowledge of dharma alleviate any disturbance within the subconscious mind. Realizing that all that happens to us, all that we hear, see, feel, we attract to us by something that has occurred in our past. These basic principles of the three kinds of karma, the knowledge of dharma and the existence of an all pervading Force are not in the Abrahamic religions, they are in the Asian religions and that's why we don't find so much, "mental illness" within the Asian people who are practicing their religion, by having a knowledge of their religion first of how to practice properly and with the proper attitudes. The Western religions which are the Abrahamic religions which stiMulate guilt and fear from a very young age in an individual, lay the foundation for mental disturbance all through life.

Shyamadeva Dandapani chats with Sadhaka Thondunatha in the "Manga Mandapam," a small sitting area built under a giant Mango tree that towers 60 feet above our publications building. Shyamadeva has been doing various karma yoga projects at the monastery during the day.

Mrs. Rushmee Ghooral, right, with her sister-in-law in the pink sari, and her children who are visiting from England. Mrs. Ghooral was given a gift of Dancing with Siva by one of our American devotees, Easan Katir, who was a UK resident several years ago. She also has a copy of Loving Ganesha which she dearly loves. The youth were full of questions about Hinduism and will surely go back to England with a different perspective on the religion of their birth.

Mauritius was a French colony for a period of time. Many of the older buildings in our small island home are graced with the same elegance as is found in New Orleans in the United States. Sadhaka Haranandinatha paused in front of this house during a busy day in the capital city, Port Louis.

Another of the small colonial style houses which has survived over a century of intense tropical sun and many powerful cyclones (hurricanes).

Proceeds from this fund last forever; they're not a one-time gift. So gifts to this fund have eternal gratitude built into them. They live on in perpetuity.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, traveled with him or just talked with him over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.
