Sri Chinmoy: The Peace Meditation at the United Nations, 25 August 2000
Cybertalk: Christina, from California, asks Gurudeva what to do if we encounter abusive situations. Is it our karma to know about it, or are we making karma by not doing something? Gurudeva answers unequivocally, "Do Something!" Otherwise, he explains, you do become involved in the karma of the situation.
Do you have questions for Gurudeva? A detailed index of past inspired talks is available here. Transcription of One of Gurudeva's CyberTalks August 17, 2000 Title: Astrology and Free Will Category: Karma Duration: 2 min, 46 seconds A question from a cyperspace cadet from Australia, Aussie.com is that, "What is the best way of using Vedic astrology for predictive purposes and is the will of man stronger than the vibration of the stars and their magnetic influences?" A Jyotish Shastri guru understands the family lineage extremely well from generation to generation therefore can relate the astrological influences more correctly then can the modern astrologer who just has a walk-in customer and that's it. Gives some off the top of the head advise. The best way to use Vedic astrology is to be sure that you know your client extremely well, all of his associates, relatives and friends because they also have an influence within the sphere of the individuals life. If the client is surrounded by a good productive, creative, happy people this would tend to mitigate negative influences from the planets at the time that he's going through them. However if he's surrounded by negative unproductive people who do not uplift but tear down as their occupation this will strengthen negative influences of a period that he might be going through and with all of this in mind and more, yes the will power of an individual can mitigate the influence of the planets. Here at Kauai Aadheenam we look at the negative periods as a time to go within our self and the positive is a time to move the forces of the outside world. Like all mystical sciences, Jyotish Vedic astrology is taught on a vibration between the teacher and his student. Not through books, not through computer but on a vibration. It's an absorbing learning, an experiential learning. So be careful of any astrologer you might go to because when you go to an astrologer you're open to whatever he puts into your mind and you might manifest yourself whether it's true or untrue. Sri Chinmoy presents two songs composed for Gurudeva:
Gurudev Subramuniya Swami, Master divine! and Hinduism Today, previously composed and sung at Kauai Aadheenam:

The U Thant Peace Award was established by Sri Chinmoy: the Peace Meditation
at the United Nations in honour of the late Secretary-General of the United
Nations, who was a deeply contemplative world-server. Under the aegis of U
Thant, his close friend, Sri Chinmoy began conducting the twice-weekly Peace
Meditations at United Nations headquarters in 1970.

Meanwhile back at Kauai Aadheenam we had an exciting day taking some honey bees out of the wall of the Guru Peedam. This was an exquisitely beautiful colony. Very populous and healthy. We measured a total of about 18 linear feet of comb on this wall board and inside the wall. Our task was to move the bees into a box that could be transported to another site, as they were giving "humbug" to some hired local carpenters who are re-roofing the courtyard. Fortunately the bees were an extremely gentle lot. They have been working very hard on some eucalyptus blooms nearby and the colony was full of fresh honey. Here Sivakatirswami begins the tedious process of cutting up the comb and putting it inside a box. The key to success in this operation is to find the queen bee and get her in the box right away. Then all the other bees follow her. Acharya Kumarswami sits close by. He had sent a small prayer to our devas here just a few minutes earlier and amazingly we found the queen within 4 minutes after taking the comb out of the wall! Our Thambynathan Jnandasanatha will be leaving back for Malaysia on Monday after completely a wonderful stay on Kauai. He is returning to Malaysia to finish high school. For the last few days of his stay, he is helping out in other kulams to get to know the other monks and their work. Here he is working in the Ganapati Kulam helping Sadhaka Dandapani, our subscription manager with the renewal mailing for Hinduism Today. Jnanadasanatha proves to be very concentrated, intelligent and diligent in his work.
