Kauai's Hindu Monastery, USA
February 3, 2000 - Uttarashadha

It's the end of the phase, visitors' day with guests enjoying a time at Kauai's Hindu Monastery. One gave him the nice flower lei.

Gurudeva gave a wonderful talk today to the monks, about how to live their life together perfectly, how to flow and serve without worry or concern or second-thoughts, how to be impersonal even about the things that are deeply important to them, how to be ready always for change and newness and new directions and never get in a mental rut.

A few days back he gave the talk you will hear if you click below, answering questions from TAKA visitors. Remember, you are always welcome to submit your questions by using the contact button below.

Satguru Speaks

Cybertalk: Today we conclude Gurudeva's answer to the question about the nature of our soul. Gurudeva discusses our realization of the deepest parts of our being, Satchidananda and Parasiva, as well as the environments and initiations that preceed those realizations.

Gurudeva meets with two of his swamis in the morning.

Today Barbara Curl also visited Gurudeva to ask him some questions about the future of Kauai's visioning process and a spiritual leadership center on the island working as the Kauai Aloha Foundation. She also asked some questions about computers, something she has dutifully avoided all these years but now feels would be helpful (as long as she doesn't end up spending her life on the web).

During the morning visit, she and Gurudeva phoned our island's mayor in Seattle. Maryanne Kusaka is on the Really Big Island on behalf of Kauaiians, working for some grants, talking with tourist agencies and meeting with some benefactors to have them contribute the shipping costs of sending the materials she has arranged to be purchased for building a large canoe for the island (she told us on the phone Kauai is the only island without its own official canoe!)

Thank you, Barbara, for being a catalyst for change and joy.

Saravan Veylan (on the right) has been a great help in the Lombodara Kulam, which takes care of cooking, cows, the temple management and hosting of guests. Here he lis learning how to make dosai from ragi flour. . .this is a thin flat "fried bread" and ragi is a famous grain in India, black millet renowned among yogis for its healthful properties, high protein--and endurance food.

Two Siddhidata Kulam (grounds, construction, maintenance and agricultural department) members, Brahmachari Vickneshwaran and Sadhaka Nilakantha. They will be managing the Kulam as their Talaivar (senior coordinator) Yogi Yuganatha will be going back to Malaysia after his two-year retreat to visit with his family and friends.

Our wonderful young men are healthy, happy and hopelessly humorous. One among them, not pictured, offered the following wry insight today:

I am going to quit procrastinating...I just haven't gotten around to it.

The morning sun on an absolutely clear morning makes for a magnificent Mount Waialeale.

Great News! Our team of monks at our branch monastery, the Saiva Siddhanta Church of Mauritius, has got their digital camera up and running. Thanks for sending the photos. Here is Brahmachari Paramesvaran Muniandy from Malaysia who has been spending time in Mauritius helping the monks there and preparing for monastic life.

The monastery there is situated on the northern shore of the island. The Republic of Mauritius is variously called the "Jewel of the Indian Ocean," the "The new Singapore of the Indian Ocean." Situated off the coast of Madagascar it is considered part of the African nations and a rapidly rising star for off-shore banking and aspiring to become a high-tech information center in that part of the world. Our monastery is on 11 acres of land at the mouth of the Rempart River which flows East into the ocean. The monks have a daily stunning view of the bluest waters of the world as the sun rises over the ocean washing our center in its morning rays.

The same size as the island of Kauai, with more habitable area, the island is politically controlled by the majority Hindus of an approximately 1.5 million populace. Once a barren rock, it was populated first by the French and later by the British, with Indians from first Tamil Nadu and later other Indian states, as the ships that rounded the tip of Africa had to pass by the island on their way to and fro from Asia. Formal French, African French Creole, Tamil, Hindu, Telegu, Marathi, urdu and 100's of dialects all co-exist. The Hindu culture is mixed with the soft, elegant grace of the French language to make for a beautiful country with beautiful people. A great place to visit with some of the top rated 5 star hotels in the world. And a great place to live, if you are lucky enough to be there. Watch for more picture in the days to come.

THANK YOU, GURUDEVA!

For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.

Proceeds from this fund are forever, not a one-time gift, so gifts to this fund have an eternal gratitude built into them. They live on, in perpetuity.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund, to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, or traveled or just talked with him, over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.
