We all survived the Millennial Fever and rejoice that so few problems arose around the globe. It is heartening that, just as we predicted weeks ago, the sun would shine on January 1, the birds would sing, the moon would make its languid eliptical journey in the heavens above, souls would patiently evolve and all would be well in Siva's Ever-Perfect Universe. Don't you love those four sweet words: "We told you so"?

New! Satguru Speaks Again!

Today's Cybertalk: Sit down, turn off the TV, breath deeply and regularly, quiet your mind, just a little, and then listen to Gurudeva guide you gently through a Color Meditation for 10 minutes. Today in Kadavul Hindu Temple in the early hours we heard Gurudeva speak about showing gratitude, love and appreciation to all the family members at home. Gurudeva called it Managing Professional Homes. It is a must at a corporation, company or a business to show appreciation and gratitude by saying thank you for work done, to be kind and decent to one another. But the question is, is such professional behavior observed at home?

As a Satguru, Gurudeva receives lots of e-mails daily, mainly concerning household problems. Two questions were asked to the children who send those mails: Do your parent say "I love you" and "Thank You" or "I appreciate all the wonderful things that you are doing"? Approximately 90 percent said that their parents never say such things. That shows that this is not practised at home. Gurudeva is urging that all families show their appreciation and love to their children constantly. The easiest way is to say "I love you" and "Thank You."

The second thing that Gurudeva emphasised is to take stress and leave it at the feet of the deity for release. The home shrine should be a place free from negative vibrations and pure so the Gods will come and receive your prayers when puja is done. This will make the shrine a very uplifting place and whenever mental turmoil occurs you could regain calmness and peaceg in your own home shrine.

When both of the above are practised well, the entire home will have positive vibrations and will become very magnetic. Home will become the place you look forward to return to each day. 'Home sweet home'.

When this happens, wars in the home ends, wars in the community end leading to the end of all the greater and wider wars. First make good, peaceful homes, manage your homes professionally. This will naturally radiate out to the community and to the country, and all worlds will rejoice in peacefulness.

To start with, say these nine words, "I Appreciate you, I Thank You, and I love you."

Three young men took important vows, vratas in Sanskrit, today. Left to right are Kanesh Jothiswarar, Vicknesvaran and Panshula Ganeshan.

As Gurudeva tended the sacred Homa fire, the three read aloud their vows to uphold dharma through: controlling the sexual energies and other instincts (to remain virgin until marriage), being pure vegetarians, tithing ten percent of their income and following the Nandinatha Sampradaya and the Kailasa Paramparai.

Gurudeva signed their vows and blessed them as they took this next step on the spiritual path, slowly changing habits and old ways to live in a divine consciousness.

for the Brahmachariya Vrata, Gurudeva traditionally ties a cord around the waist, and urges the vow-taker to not let his or her mind go below the cord!

Then Gurudeva blesses the aspirants, this being Kanesh.

Vicknesvaran's turn.

He receives special Satguru blessings, important when a 14-year-old takes grown-up vows.

Now Panshula.

This is Panshula's first Guru blessing, for he just arrived on Kauai yesterday and met Gurudeva for the first time, after months and months of diligent study and preparation.

More vow reading as members and monks look on.

Signing makes it official, and impresses the subconscious mind deeply.

Then, our Malaysian elder, Tiru Jothisvarar, and his wife took similar vows, in Tamil.

Thondunatha, on the right, translated for them and they took this step toward membership in Saiva Siddhanta Church.

Here is the couple with granddaughter, Shiva Jothisvari.

Today we feature this wonderful family who is here for Guru Jayanti. They are from Singapore. We did this short interview regarding their stay here on Kauai, meeting their Satguru and having a delightful Guru Jayanti. Here is what they shared with us:

To start with they are very excited to be here. Yo can just see how joyful they are in the photograph. From left, Shanta Devi (the mother), Siva Kumaran (son), Kavitha Darshini (daughter) and Srimathi Thanapackiam (Shanta's mother). One uplifting testimony after another just flowed from them as we asked them about their thoughts about being here. Dream come true, lifetime longing, amazing, lucky and honored. They have been long time devotees of Gurudeva and this is their first time being on Kauai. Amma Thanapackiam had a surgery three months ago and was all inspired as she recuperates to meet Gurudeva and have his blessings for herself and her whole extended family.

Amma told us, "I am very happy to meet everyone here at Kauai Aadheenam and we are all honored to be here. We all look forward to having Gurudeva's blessings. The next time we come to Kauai, more of our family will be with us for Gurudeva's darshan."

Kavita told us, "This feels like being at home. \"

Sivakumaran called it "paradise, so beautiful and uplifting."

Shanta Deva assured us, "We will be back."

Tandu Sivanathan and Shamadeva Dandapani hang out in the Bangalore Gallery at breakfast time.

Monks in the trees, trimming a few branches of our giant Banyan Tree so the equipment can pass under it without breaking off limbs. to reach the limbs, they use the bucket of our tractor, and chainsaw from it.

This is a Hawaiian-style work crew, lots of supervisors, overseers, managers, executives and sidewalk engineers. no one actually does work.

OK, they did work after the photo was taken, we have to admit, and quite hard too. Tons of debris, rocks and trees had to be moved from the site.

Here's our local tree-trimmer beginning his climb, with chainsaw on a rope. It's a hard task, requiring lots of strength and courage. The tree was about 50 feet tall. The trimmers took down the fronds first, then slowly cut 18 inches at a time till they reached the ground.
