Hindu Year 5102: Vikrama, the "Year of Fulfillment"

The flash didnÍt work, but Gurudeva's book signing event at the Bellevue, Barnes & Noble, Washington was a grand success. We bring you this first person report from Nitya Nadesan:

"After a short rest at their hotel, Gurudeva, Ceyonswami and Natyam Thondunatha arrived at the Bellevue branch of Barnes & Noble a few minutes early and were surprised to find most of the seats set up for the event already taken by folks with beaming faces waiting for Gurudeva's talk. It was Independence Day, and Gurudeva proceeded to warm up the crowd with a few amusing stories which all enjoyed immensely, while the remaining seats were filled and all available chairs in the store were brought to the book signing area to accommodate the overflow crowd."

Title: Dealing with Noise Pollution
Category: Meditation and Yoga
Duration: 1 min., 27 seconds

Cybertalk: An e-devotee asks what we can do about combatting noise pollution, which seems to be low on the "pollution agendas" of the world. Gurudeva advises to be proactive, and he also explains how after years of meditation he has become immune to noise. He also mentions how in the inner worlds sound and color are one.

Title: The Flower Penance
Category: Karma

Well, a very interesting question from a cyberspace cadet who sent me two pictures of himself, telling me, "Please explain how I can get over the hurt and the pain of people that have cheated me, let me down, hurt me and how do I handle the big, bad world?"

Human beings are very good at cheating and hurting other people. They are professionals and some do it better than others. And obviously you have encountered some of the best, who have accomplished hurts that go deep. But happiness is just around the corner. All you have to do is to put a picture of all the people who hurt you up in your shrine room and put a flower in front of each one every day and thank them for giving your own karma back because you hurt others in your past life. You are just getting it back through them. Perform this simple puja: putting a flower in front of the picture of each one who hurt you and forgive them and thank them for playing your karma back to you, the hurts that you gave someone else in a past life. Perform this for thirty-one days and put the past behind you. Your picture looks very familiar. Maybe we saw you in the inner world, in a dream or a vision. But the next thing to do is to choose your friends carefully and those who associate with you. Be discriminating. Surround yourself with people of mutual interest: Spiritually , socially, culturally, economically and educationalwise.

An interesting side note relayed to us by the store manager. Apparently many people had been coming into the bookstore since the 10 AM opening asking if Gurudeva was there yet. When they were told not until 4 PM, they went to the religion book section and began buying up his books. So, when we got there for the book signing the manager was worried we might run out of books because so many had been sold throughout the day. Fortunately, we brought along our own back up supply. It was estimated along with the pre-book signing sales, 80 or more books were sold that day. Gurudeva gave away 53 pens to those he sat with.

After the book signing, Gurudeva, Ceyonswami and Natyam Thondunatha retired to the Starbuck's Cafe in the Barnes & Noble to chat with the three Dr. Sodhi's (Virender, Tejinder, Shalinder) about the Hindu Temple, which is coming up in Bothell, Washington, just a few miles from the bookstore. Dr. Virender Sodhi has recently been elected to the temple board and has already saved the building fund thousands by suggesting a more efficient ground water management system. The other Sodhi brothers are actively in the temple project as well.

During our time in Starbuck's, 10 more books were sold to people who had arrived late and missed the official event.

[PHOTO from the booksigning] The following day, July 5, a beautiful sunny 70 degree day, Gurudeva, Ceyonswami and Natyam Thondunatha departed Seattle for Calgary, Alberta in Canada. Diksha Kandar, Kriya Haran and I saw them off.

[PHOTO from the booksigning] While waiting to board the plane, Gurudeva gave us an upadesha on our satsang group and helping the Indian Hindus in the Seattle area who are working to get a temple started.

[PHOTO from the booksigning] We are so thrilled to have Gurudeva visit the Seattle area for the second year in a row. Hopefully, his visits will be an annual occurrence. The staff at Barnes & Noble are so happy with the turnout Gurudeva brings them. He has a standing invitation to return anytime to share the Saivite teachings."

Back at Kauai Aadheenam, today we had a lovely family from California: Chandra Mundra his wife Indu, daughter Shree and little son Ananth. Chandra is a computer engineer with SGI company in the Bay Area, California. They are on vacation and Indu's brother who had visited Kauai Aadheenam told them about the temple.

THANK YOU, GURUDEVA

For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.

Proceeds from this fund last forever; they're not a one-time gift. So gifts to this fund have eternal gratitude built into them. They live on in perpetuity.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, traveled with him or just talked with him over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.
