Category: Family
Duration: 3 min., 21 seconds

Cybertalk: First, Gurudeva tells some news about the development of Muruga Hill here at Kauai Aadheenam. Then: E-devotee Lolita@yahoo.com is sending her children off to college soon and she asks Gurudeva for advice on how to keep them close. Along with other advice, Gurudeva suggests she explain clearly to them why they are going to college, to learn, not just to make friends.

We have a question from Rosita@home.com that has just come in regarding the Tirukural verses that come up every day on her computer and she's wondering about the verses that tell us that we need to have fame and renown to live on planet earth.

On a very simple level, the Tirukural is saying in this particular chapter, that, yes, we need to be a nice person, yes, we have to help the community, yes, we have to help the family, yes, we have to be a person that people can come to and be uplifted. And, in reverse, these verses are saying that if we are a person that no one came come to to be uplifted, that is doing nothing for the community, simply living a selfish life of me and mine, forgetting you and others, that it is a useless life and would be better not even to be born.

The Silver Sword is a cactus like plant that blooms once a year. It throws up a single giant stem, a magnificent frond of blossoms two and a half-feet tall!

Yellow Bouganvilla . . . the long bright summer days bring to us the incredible colors of Kauai.

One famous painter said: " I have lived and painted in many parts of the world, no where on earth, not even in the Caribbean or in the Mediterranean will you see such magnificent color as you do on the island of Kauai."

It is 12:00 noon and the "changing of the guard" is underway. Sadhaka Tyaganatha had the vigil from 9:00 AM to 12:00 noon, during which time, according the rule of the monastery, he must not leave the temple precincts. Now Sannyasin Saravanannathaswami will come on for the 12 noon to 3 PM vigil.

Our visiting, Artist Manivelu who has spent his entire life in India in temples, painting all the images. . .said: "I am amazed that you have been doing vigil in this temple, 24 hours a day, 8 pujas a day for nearly 30 years. The vibration in the temple is something wonderful, it brings such bliss, I can't express it. . .how can you tell someone how sweet something is? It is not possible. . .they have to feel it for themselves."

A small arati is performed to the little Ganapati on the outside west wall of the temple by Brahmachari Vigneswaran.

Iraivan Temple Carving Site, Bangalore, India
An eleven acre site in Bangalore, India, where 75 Indian families live and daily carve the sacred white granite edifice of Iraivan Temple which will soon begin to be assembled on the island of Kauai

There is a lot of excitement in the air as the prospect of having more stones shipped from India looms on the horizon. These are more shots from our temple carving site in Bangalore.

Planning and budgeting here at the Aadheenam is underway to determine the cost to bring over and house 5 silpis (artisans) who will begin the work of precisely fitting the temple together.

Our architect, Ganapati Sthapati (left) in Chennai.

Some of the young men at the carving site, relaxing.

The stones arrive in very rough shape and slowly the work begins. . .inside that stone is a beautiful pillar, or several floor blocks, to be gradually revealed by the skilled hand of th silpi under the direction of the master architects.

For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.

Proceeds from this fund last forever; they're not a one-time gift. So gifts to this fund have eternal gratitude built into them. They live on in perpetuity.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, traveled with him or just talked with him over the years.
