Satguru Speaks

Cybertalk: Gurudeva answers two questions today. One is about the efficacy of group prayer. The other is about the reality of free will. How free are we, really? But perhaps the biggest question is, how is Gurudeva doing this while he is traveling on the innersearch in the Carribbean?

Scenes from Fort Lauderdale

Gurudeva took an "air boat" ride on the EAverglades

A not too close up of an alligator

Gurudeva meets at a small South Indian style temple in a home in Fort Lauderdale, about 150 people came.

Later he went to another temple, more North Indian style.

Here he signed books from some of the devotees.

Then, off to the boat! We have this write up that just arrived:

54 souls have come together on the MS Volendam for a luxurious ten day cruise to the Caribbean, visiting the Hindu community in Trinidad and Domingo. Inspired by Gurudeva, innersearchers from India, Singapore, Malaysia, Scotland, Canada and eight US states have set aside their daily routines for this special time with Gurudeva and the matavasis. We joined Gurudeva in the Crow's Nest, at the very top of this gigantic ship, for our first shipboard gathering. From our shipboard mountaintop perspective, we watched land slip away as we sailed into the Atlantic Ocean to begin our inner and outer journey.

Lila Shakti Devi getting ready to board.

Early next morning we made our way along rolling hallways and pitching stairs to our 6:30 am class with Acharya Palaniswami. With senses not yet accustomed to this gentle (says the crew!) but persistent rolling motion, navigating this outer world has been an amusing array of lurches, swaying and dizziness, accompanied by nausea and malaise for some. Seasickness and its various cures have been conversation topics for many. For those hearty souls able to brave the ocean's endless swells, Acharya's class laid a wonderful foundation for our ten days with Gurudeva.

At 9:30 we met with Gurudeva for our first class together on color and Manipuri dance. His first words were addressed to the lingering seasickness, offering us this simple cure-move with the motion of the ship instead of attempting to right yourself against it. Flow with the bobbing river of life! Some personal testimony is that Gurudeva's advice works. Each area of our lives is never too insignificant for Gurudeva's counsel.

In a less etheric vein- Being greeted with Namaste upon entering the ship's elegant dinning room welcomes us. The food they have prepared for Gurudeva is wonderful. No western food, but delicious Indian food served with graceful attentiveness by the Indonesian staff. The private meeting room has a great view of the ocean moving by beneath us and is a wonderful space for gathering with Gurudeva. In dramatic juxtaposition to our innersearch, immediately outside our meeting room are an array of slot machines making their music-like sounds.

Natarajnathaswami has the evening vigil in the temple from 6PM to 9PM during which he holds a Master Course class. He has developed a siimplified version of the lessons in Dancing with Shiva for young people, each concept has a lovely picture going along with it.

These lessons will eventually form one of the books of the Master Course for Gurudeva's students.

This is the lesson for Mandala 7: Karma and Rebirth.

The Yogaswami shrine in the back of the Guru Temple.

Saravan Veylan reviews the lesson for today.

Deva Siva Veylan. . .he says "Om Sivaya!" to his mom and dad and all his friends in Edmonton Canada.

He recently changed his service from the publicatons team to the Lombodara Kulam . . .(he is moving from one department of the monastery to another as part of his training.) Now he will learn about cooking and cows and the temple work. He said about our new KOL pack walk-in cooler, where the temperature is maintained at a low 40 degress fahrenheit:

"I have a suggestion. You name everything else around here. Let's call it the Canada Room!"

Title: Seeing Yourself in Others
Category: Self Improvement
Duration: 1 min., 16 seconds

The question is "Is what we see in others manifest within ourselves or could be expressed within ourselves, in the right situation, whether it is something that's bad or something that's good?"

The answer would be that when you see a quality within another that excites you, it would be a good quality. If it disturbs you, it would be a bad quality. Yes, under the right circumstances, you would be inclined to do the same thing. That's why you are disturbed.

You will see qualities in another person, that you do not like, that do not disturb you. That means you have conquered those qualities, within yourself and, therefore, you can help the other person.

A good test is watching television. What disturbs you on television is what you might do under the right circumstances. If you are happy on television, that's what makes you happy under the right circumstances. Whatever is stirred within you, is a part of you.

Title: Earrings and nose rings
Category: Hinduism and Tradition
Duration: 1 min., 10 seconds

A question from Dinesh wanting to know "Why do men and women pierce their ears?

The best answer is what I have been told through the years. Apart from making the face and head beautiful, and more attractive, there is also an Ayurvedic way of explaining why many men pierce their ears and nose.

In the Ayurveda, the natural form of healing, ancient custom of India, China and through Asia, it is felt that gold has a very important property. When the blood passes over the gold earring or gold nosering, it gives added health to the body.

We don't recommend and men don't pierce their noses but, they are piercing their ears, more and more in today's world. I am sure that they will experience better health if they wear pure gold earrings.
