Title: Who Invented the Gods?
Category: God and Lords of Dharma
Duration: 1 min., 31 seconds

Today's Video

A view by helicopter of our beautiful land on Kauai, Gurudeva's home

Cybertalk: Gurudeva responds today to a question about the abundance of Hindu Gods. "Why were they invented?" a devotee asks. Gurudeva explains briefly the nature of these many Gods and the Hindu's connection with them, and Gurudeva stresses that these Gods are real living beings, not fabrications of imagination or mere symbols.

Title: A Lifetime of Study
Category: The Spiritual Path
Duration: 1 min, 51 seconds

The question has come in from a devotee in cyber-space, from
yahoo.com. The question is:

"Gurudeva, you mentioned that Loving Ganesha should be in every Hindu temple library. But should the Trustees of the library discriminate as to what kind of books are in that library?"

There are hundreds of thousands of Hindu temples in the world today and yes, they should all have a library and no, the Trustees of the temple have no rules as to discriminating what books should be in the library and what books should not be in the library. It's left to the discrimination of the Trustees of each temple.

There are hundreds of thousands of books on Hinduism, related to Hinduism, on Yoga and modern Metaphysics. It's left really to the devotee and his spiritual guide to choose what is to be read. We read and study for a continuity of logical information so that we improve our lives. It's up to the devotee to find out from his guru, what He would recommend to be read, how often and how to study and put into practice. That's the job of the guru.

From my personal point of view ,study Loving Ganesha, Dancing with Siva, Living with Siva, Merging with Siva, Weavers Wisdom and you'll have enough for an entire lifetime, if you put what is suggested there into practice.

Today we had a special homa in the temple to celebrate Vaikasi Vishakam. Several pilgrim families were in attendance.

Vaikasi Vishakam is a powerful festival. At this time, the moon is in line with the nakshatra/constellation of Vishaka and on the opposite side of the planet the Sun is in line with the constellation of the Pleiades/Krittika. This full moon alignment brings about a very powerful spiritual energy on the inner planes and is a time of initiation. It is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Kartikeya (Muruga) and in Buddhism the day of Enlightenment for Buddha. It was on this day in 1949 that Gurudeva was initiated by Siva Yogaswami.

Kanesh receives his earrings. Skandanathaswami does the ear boring, all in the vibration of the sacred fire.

For the final offering everyone pours grains, fruits ghee into the fire. . .it is called the "purnarhuti" the "Full Offering."

These are the Kumbhas, or sacred pots into which is transferred the spiritual power from the fire rites. The water is then used to bless the land, or to perform the bathing of the Deities after the homa.

A special project is underway on the San Marga path: The raising up of "Muruga Hill." this is a section of the path that will be a large hill at the top of which is a shrine to Lord Muruga. This has long been in the plans and now that the 4,000 tons of earth are about to be removed from the temple foundation we will use it to build the hill.

Cedrick, the man who is doing the job and his wife.

In order to proceed a large section of the San Marga path was cleared right to the bare ground.

This morning at the Ganapati Kulam's morning meeting (the publications team) they folded Hinduism Today promotion brochures, which will be mailed out to those who have allowed their subscription to lapse.

"All hands on deck for a big mailing!" has been a long time time call for the monks through the years.

It's always a fun time to chat and "keep it light" as the hands stay busy 'till the job is done.

We have permission from Mr. Langley in Canada, our soils engineer, to removed the surcharge from the temple foundation, which has settled very little during the months it was covered with earth. We will know the precise measurements after the soil in removed.

SINGAPORE/MALAYSIA YAGNA YATRA

Gurudeva has accepted an invitation to attend a large Agnihotra yagna at Batu Caves June 3-4, organized by Dr. G. Paramasivam, managing director of Aboorvas company. The yagna is called "Aboorvas Anmeega Yathirai" and is expected to draw 50,000 devotees. The Aboorvas company is financing air tickets and accomodations for Gurudeva and two more mathavasi. Gurudeva is also bringing a third. The three traveling with Gurudeva will be Acharya Kumarswami, Sadhaka Thondunatha and Sadhaka Japendranatha. Following is a tentative schedule, meaning it's not confirmed: Gurudeva will first stop in Singapore for two nights. He arrives in Singapore on May 31 afternoon and flights to Kuala Lumpur on June 2 morning. Three temples in Singapore have invited Gurudeva's presence, where he will conduct book signings in the evenings. In Malaysia, Gurudeva will meet on June 2 evening with Academy students preparing to become vratasishya, and any young men interested in the mathavasi path. June 3 and 4 are the two days for the yagna, so Gurudeva will be committed to the yagna during that time. June 5 is yet to be schedule. Gurudeva leaves Malaysia back to Hawaii on the afternoon of June 6. After the book signings in Singapore, Gurudeva will have a large book release/signing in Malaysia on June 3, Saturday afternoon at the yagna, and at a large hall on Sunday that Brahmacharinis Chudikadevi and Gowri are organizing. We sincerely hope that all Academy students and Church members will help as much as possible to make these events a large success.

THANK YOU, GURUDEVA

For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.

Proceeds from this fund last forever; they're not a one-time gift. So gifts to this fund have eternal gratitude built into them. They live on in perpetuity.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, traveled with him or just talked with him over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.

This page is updated every day at 5:30pm Hawaii Standard Time.
