Title: Meaning of Initiation
Category: The Guru
Duration: 1 min., 33 seconds

Cybertalk: A provocative question comes in to Gurudeva today about taking initiation from a Guru. What happens if that Guru passes? Do we need to take another initiation from a living guru?

Title-- A Chance to Meet Gurudeva
Category-- Hinduism & Tradition

A beautiful question from a first-time cyberspace cadet from Singapore who is adjusting his life at 20 years of age and has the question, "How can I better my life?"

Well, Vignesh, we're very happy that you're visiting Hinduism online and that you are looking at your life, becoming introspective. I'll be in Singapore next week. Come see me. We'll have a nice talk about your personal life and about your future. It's very difficult for young people to get a grip on their future, on the present and deal with the past at the same time. I have a beautiful book, "Merging with Siva", 365 daily lessons that you should read and study. Guaranteed to change your life.

A cyberspace question from Jahar Bahru in Maylasia saying, "Priests are suggesting that we should offer our prayers to a guru rather than to God. What is the difference?"

The difference is you can have a two-way conversation with your Guru! Come visit with me. I'll be at the Sri Ganesha Temple next week and we can have a nice talk together. You'll meet some wonderful people. It's the Senpaga Vinayagar Temple.

Here we are at the foundation of the temple as the surcharge of earth is being removed. You can just discern the concrete peeking out at the base.

The earth is being moved out to the "straight path to God" the San Marga path, where a large hill is being constructed. On top of this will be a shrine for Lord Muruga. Pilgrims walking up the path will climb the hill and offer their worship before continuing on down the path.

Here we are approaching the hill. . .walking up San Marga from the Rudraksha Forest.

This is a view of the hill after you have passed it, on the way down the path, turning back to look.

San Marga, means "True Path." and represents the soul's journey to finally merge with Lord Shiva. On the way the devotee first must get blessings from Lord Ganesha, then Lord Muruga before finally coming to Lord Shiva.

More photos from our Sun one ceremonies: lovely tropical offerings brought by the devotees.

Natyan Tyaganatha does a beautiful puja and raises up the fire that has now become the very Deity Itself. In the Vedas Agni, or Fire deity, is much praised, as the "Messenger of the Gods."

One of the sacraments from the rites is to take kusa grass burn it in the fire. The ash is mixed with ghee and applied to the forehead.

The Vedas avow, "He shines forth at dawn like the sunlight, deploying the sacrifice in the manner of priests unfolding their prayerful thoughts. Agni, the God who knows well all the generations, visits the Gods as a messenger, most efficacious." Aum Namaœ Sivaya.

THANK YOU, GURUDEVA

For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.

Proceeds from this fund last forever; they're not a one-time gift. So gifts to this fund have eternal gratitude built into them. They live on in perpetuity.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, traveled with him or just talked with him over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.

This page is updated every day at 5:30pm Hawaii Standard Time.
