Hindu Year 5102: Vikrama, the "Year of Fulfillment"

Today we bring you the final series of photos from Gurudeva's mission to the mainland, finishing off with the second and last set of photos from Koan Gallery where we held the silent auction for Iraivan Temple fund raising.

Here is Gurudeva with Palaka and Loganatha Shivam, owners of Koan Gallery and organizers of the event.

Title: Making Teenagers Delinquent, pt. 1
Category: Family
Duration: 3 min., 33 seconds

Cybertalk: A question about how mothers can help teenagers through their "troubled years" triggers an impassioned response from Gurudeva about how children used to be raised as compared to how they are raised and families formed today. It has reached the point where teenagers are supposed to misbehave, so therefore they do. (At 47 seconds we have included a fun exchange between Gurudeva and Sadhaka Thondunatha, our Tamil translator, when he couldn't find a Tamil word for one of Gurudeva's English ones.)

Title: Namaste
Category: Hinduism and Tradition
Duration: 37 seconds

An e-mail question from AOL.com, wondering what is the meaning of Namaste.

It means hell-o, it means good-bye, it means I worship the God in you, I bow to you. It's recognizing the spirit the divine in another person. We by-pass the intellect of the individual and how he looks physically when we say Namaste, we contact the God within the individual.

One very special blessing for the function was having the famed L. Shankar and his niece, Niranjani, perform. Here they warm up for the evening's very personal concert.

Shankar, Niranjani and a very young member of the Shankar family with Gurudeva.

Gurudeva with L. Shankar and Niranjani, Shankar's niece and accompanist. At the young age of 20 Shankar was part of the ground breaking orchestra with John McLaughlin called Shakti. Since those days he has soared to the top of the music world. L. Shankar has sold more than 10 million albums. Niranjani, just 20, is an accomplished musician in her own right and has been performing with L. Shankar for the last three years.

Sitara Nadesan with her two children. Sitara teaches kindergarten in LA and comes from a family who have long been devotees of Gurudeva.

Guests crowd around the auction table. They were a mix of Gurudeva's devotees and long-time customers of Koan Gallery from the LA set.

Gurudeva with Damara Shanmuga and guest at the silent auction.

Gurudeva meets Toshadeva and for the first time his mother, Elaine, and friends.

Gurudeva with famed astrologer Chakrapani Ullal, an old friend. Chakrapani, who was brought to USA by Swami Muktananda, has done numerous articles for Hinduism Today on the mysteries of jyotish or Vedic Astrology.

The unique double violin of L. Shankar. It has a range from a violin to a bass cello. Shankar developed it to match his own voice range of five octives. Niranjani plays a nearly identical instrument.

Gurudeva and LA lawyer Yogananda DeSantis discuss a proposed book, "How to run a Hindu temple." Yogananda is close to the Malibu Hindu temple and very interested in establishing procedures and protocols for running temples which respect the rights of priests and devotees alike.

Facing south, here is A view of the Iraivan Temple foundation looking through the Yagasala.

Rig Veda IX Vs 1 says:

"Accustomed to the Herald's place,
the Herald hath seated him,
Bright, splendid, passing mighty,
Whose foresight keeps
the Law from violation,
excellent, pure-tongued, bringing thousands, Agni."

It was a quiet day at the monastery, everyone very much focused on their work. We finished the articles on the Millennium Summit for the the November/December issue of Hinduism Today.

Watching westward we witness a classic Mount Waialeale sunset--the ever humbling and awesome turning of the worlds from our small haven in the middle of the Pacific--inspiring reverence in the heart for the great gift of life that Lord Siva has given us.

And speaking of remembrance, don't ever forget to perform your daily japa. . . repeat with concentration and mindfully melt into the mystic meaning of the sacred Words given to you by your Satguru:

THANK YOU, GURUDEVA

For those who have been touched spiritually by Gurudeva's work, his books, his guidance, his inspired life and example and even his website, the "Thank You, Gurudeva Fund" has been established within Hindu Heritage Endowment.

Proceeds from this fund last forever; they're not a one-time gift. So gifts to this fund have eternal gratitude built into them. They live on in perpetuity.

Each month Gurudeva receives the income from the fund to be used at his own discretion to promote his work and mission around the globe. He loves this, for he knows that it comes from all the good souls who have met him and studied with him, traveled with him or just talked with him over the years. A contribution to this fund is tax-deductible.
