Gurudeva working closely with Sannyasin Shanmuganathaswami on all the daily email. Today was a special day again as the Nandi Natha Sutras are being sent out to everyone by email. Also Gurudeva announced to the Kulapatis in Mauritius that he will be putting them in charge of the Saiva Dharmasala and bringing home his three older Sadhaka. Gurudeva feels that the Kulapatis in Mauritius are mature enough to follow a similar pattern as with the Subramuniya Ashram in Jaffna, where we had a group of family men run the center. The monastic quarters were maintained intact to provide living facilities whenever the monks came. Meanwhile the community ran classes, cultural programs, maintained the puja schedules etc. at the Ashram in Alaveddy. They made a great success of the property and its programs. Now we will work to manifest the same in Mauritius. Our goal is to have the monks in Mauritius fly home around May 25th. This will mean that our entire monastic order will be present at Kauai Aadheenam for the historic first stone laying of the Iraivan temple which we hope to hold on May 31st.
A cyberspace devotee asks Gurudeva if it is possible to be reincarnated into an animal body. Gurudeva says this sometimes happen when someone is in an automobile accident or is murdered. An animal body is chosen as here they are able to reorganize their currents and pranas within their body; and in their next life they would reincarnate into a human body. Gurudeva will be happy to hold "Prasnottara Satsang" -- "Questions and Answers" over the telephone with any Hindu religious societies, Hindu youth groups, Radio talk show hosts etc. All you need is a phone with a speaker and an enthusiastic audience. Arrangements may be made in advance by sending email to Sivadevanathaswami
Date: March_26_2001 Title: End of the World; How to be a Saiva Swami? Category: Hinduism and Tradition Duration: 2 min., 09 seconds Date Given: March 18, 2001 From California, nine-year old Yatrika asks a very profound question. "At the time of Siva's Mahapralaya, when Siva absorbs the entire universe into Himself, where does everybody go?" Well, Yatrika, nothing really to worry about. It is not going to happen very soon. This is called Mahapralaya, the time when Lord Siva reabsorbs the Universe within Himself, which includes all the people, you, Yatrika and myself. Everyone is absorbed into Siva, similar to when we put everything in the ocean. If we put all kinds of water in the ocean. It all mixes with the ocean and becomes a oneness. So Yatrika, we want to live a proper life according to the Sanatana Dharma, do everything that we should do, properly and not make any bad karma. Then, we are the first to be re-absorbed into Siva. When that time comes, we don't have to wait at the end of the line. A cyberspace devotee in Cambridge, Massachusetts. wonders, "How do you become a Saiva Swami. Is there a special organization that creates ordinary people into Swamis?" To become a swami, one has to renounce the world and settle all affairs within the world, within himself, so that the world renounces him. In preparation for this, he meditates on his life, meditates what the external world has to offer, what the internal world has to offer and all the satisfaction of higher states of consciousness. Finally, he finds that the external world has nothing for him if he were to go into it. The world would have renounced him. This could be a long process for some individuals and a shorter process for others.
All our thoughts are now converging on the Iraivan temple. Here Sivakatirswami smiles happily after successfully printing out a full scale drawing of one of the "Bhadra" pillars, that is being carved for Iraivan. The pillars are about 14 feet tall and magnificently carved. This print-out will be mounted for visitors to see the scale and beauty of what is soon to arrive on Kauai.
In India the temple carving site is very active. Here is another lovely overview shot. After years of carving, great care is put into preparing the stones for shipment. The crating was soaked with paint to be sure to prevent any insects from being imported into the state of Hawaii. To wrap the stones a remarkable packing material called "Koir" is used. This is made from re-cycled rubber that is then processed with coconut husks to create a very tough, heavy duty packing material. Some stones ship open and flat, others are crated and others are wrapped and crated. Six containers have been loaded and will be leaving India soon. We REALLY need your financial support at this time. Not only do we need to sustain the carving site in India, but we also need to sustain salary, housing and living expenses for the six craftsmen who will be living on Kauai as well as pay for the shipping of the stones. This basically nearly doubles the monthly financial output. Please give generously, make a pledge today! Go to the Iraivan temple site and join the international family of temple builders. A wrapped and crated stone, on its way to the container.
