Gurudeva's Statement -- Attack on America![]() We will continue with some magical tributes and stories from those who loved Gurudeva and have written in with their testimonials. They are so beautiful in their expression of love and appreciation, like this incredible gift of flowers someone sent to Gurudeva a while ago.

Namaste, When I started reading your e-mail on the morning of November 13th, I was wondering, "Who is this person? I wonder why they're telling me about this?" Not recognizing Gurudeva's long formal Indian name (I should have. I think I was just in denial--this could not be happening) I decided the 100-year-old swami who visits the ashram must have passed. Then it said something that indicated it had to be Gurudeva. My shock and horror were indescribable. I am just now coming out of it enough to write this. [continued below]
Cybertalk: Problems are important for spiritual progress. We need a Guru to help us see our problems. We need to accept what comes to us as our karma, we don't because of our ego--trying to look good in front of someone else. Gurudeva said, "Problems are not problems they are just a repetition of the past that needs to be adjusted." Whatever happens is in our karma. We can never blame someone else. When an external perspective is taken and a problem comes up then it takes away from who we are, makes us less of a person. But this doesn't happen if we take an inner perspective, such as we are a soul. Gurudeva has given us all the tools in Merging with Siva to fix the Subconscious Mind--to keep it clean. Announcement: The software that gives you the ability to run Quicktime in a browser on a Windows machine with Internet Explorer is undergoing some changes. We are in the process of addressing these issues. Changes in the coding may effect other users as well. Feedback is important. If you are experiencing any problems listening to the audio, please send a message to studyHall@hindu.org with the details of your problem, your operating system, the browser you are using and what version it is. Thank you. Bodhinatha will be happy to hold "Prasnottara Satsang" -- "Questions and Answers" over the telephone with any Hindu religious societies, Hindu youth groups, Radio talk show hosts etc. All you need is a phone with a speaker and an enthusiastic audience. Arrangements may be made in advance by sending email to Sadhaka Mahadevan

I'm afraid I haven't been able to be Politically Correct about this. It's going to take a while longer for me to be thrilled that Gurudeva is free of his body, at last. On the 13th, I sat here at my desk all day with tears uncontrollably streaming down my face. I had to avoid my co-workers because I couldn't stop crying and didn't want to have to field the questions my tear-streaked face would raise. The Web site with his casket and ashes started it up again; still, I wanted to see that and am glad you showed it to us. [continued below] In Edmonton, Canada at the Maha Ganapati temple society and memorial service was held. This temple was nurture by Gurudeva from day one and the trustees followed his advice. Even the by-laws of the temple were drafted with his guidance to form a pure Saiva temple. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Testimonial continued:
....Thank you for providing the photos of Gurudeva on the Web site. I went through them all and printed so many. It was almost as good as having him back--a healing experience to see him in his various moods and roles again. While I was looking at the pictures, it occurred to me that this is probably the most well-documented life of a saint that we have ever had, thanks to your day-to-day coverage of his activities and marvelous photography. We saw him naturally as he was, not merely in stiff formal poses. A homa was performed at the temple and his sandals worshipped by the devotees. Gurudeva asked them from day one to "keep on track" and build a pure Agamic temple with a single Deity in the center, Lord Ganesha. And though there were many tugs and pulls, the plan prevailed and now the temple has great power. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Testimonial continued:
I think I must have started with you very shortly after you started the Web site. I have watched it evolve and grow over the years. I had always been interested in learning about Hinduism, but couldn't find anyone to teach me. When we moved to this city, I learned that a Hindu temple was being built nearby, so I went over there. A nice man showed me the temple and tried to explain some things to me, but his English was heavily accented and I had a hard time understanding him. He told me there's a man in town who is an expert on Hinduism and has a Web site, but he couldn't recall his name. I was surfing the next day, trying to locate this man, when I discovered your Web site. My search ended, the other man forgotten. For years, Gurudeva started my day, every day. I'd arrive at work each morning and immediately pull up your Web site. I have scrapbooks stuffed with lessons and pictures I've printed from it over the years. You all came to mean a great deal to me. [continued below] Aran Veylan, a lawyer in Edmonton, has been one of Gurudeva's students and sishya for thirty years. He and his wife, Tara and their sons, served as Gurudeva's representatives in the community of Sri Lankan immigrants and other Hindus who were struggling to build a place of worship. He and his family came to Kauai during Gurudeva's passage. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Bodhinathaswami, you have a very big pair of sandals to fill, but I know that Gurudeva must have seen something very special in you to have chosen you as the new sandal filler. I will pray for you, and I know Gurudeva and Yogaswami are guiding you as you work to develop your own voice and leadership style, as well as at carrying out all the projects the ashram has slated for the future. With deep sadness over our mutual loss and much love,
The Edmonton Maha Ganapati Temple Society is one of the many, many examples of Gurdueva's legacy to the world.
Mr. and Mrs. Jiva and Kanmani Rajasankara in Bangalore with their son, Senthiladiban with His Holiness, Sri, Sri, Sri Balagangadaranathaswami who is the head of the Adi Chunchanagiri Mutt. The monastery and its institutions form one of the largest religious organizations in Karnataka, running hospitals, homes for batter women, orphanages, Universities. Swami is a soft-spoken but tireless, selfless, dynamic leader who really gets things done. He is one of Iraivans leading spiritual patrons because he donated 11 acres of land on which the temple carving site was established. A mystical person, after the site was chosen he called a "dowser" to his office and laid out a map of the land (which was many miles away) and the "dowser" passed a pendulum over the map and determined where they should dig for water. Later, a well was dug on this exact spot and water was there! This well has then served not only the temple carving site, but the many, many families in the surrounding villages in an area where water is a precious resource. Here a special carving is underway of our Guru Paramapara in stone. In the center of tne line of Gurus is Lord Siva Nataraja. This will be above the doorframe and entrance into the sanctum of Iraivan Temple. This is a good example of the begiinning stage of carving where the resident Sthapati (architect) will draw what is to be carved. The silpis will then work on the stone, taking down the outer portions, leaving the drawing in relief. Periodically the Sthapati will come and make more markings for the silpis to carve out. Please! Help use we need to raise yet another 12 Million dollars to finish the temple. Email iraivan@hindu.org to find out how best you may participate!
