Gurudeva at the ocean. . .he's getting better day by day. His look reminds this TAKA caption writer of Yogaswami's wonderful song:

"The single Word hath purified my dross. Sing the soulful incantation of Siva, Siva . . . Enraptured in an ecstasy, Siva, Siva, by constancy of love do I apprehend; yet in trepidation, I gaze at nothing. Magnificient indeed is the mystery, baffling the ken of e'en the realised seers."

Title: Where to Place the Home Altar, Should we Meditate Everyday?
Category: Hinduism and Tradition
Duration: 2 min., 05 seconds
Date Given: November 26, 2000

Good morning everyone.

A cyberspace devotee from Selangor, Malaysia wonders, where to place the altar in her home. She has a two-storey home and she can place it, either upstairs or downstairs, she says.

Around every Hindu temple that is properly managed, there are a number of devas in the Pretaloka, who help the devotees in their daily life. So, the purpose of having a shrine in your home is to attract these guardian devas into your home. Thus, we can prevent conflict, misunderstanding, hurt feelings and have happiness, light and love.

The altar should face East, if possible. Of course, the vibration upstairs is much better than downstairs. The room in which your shrine is actually the home or the living place of these devonic beings. Your home is connected to the temple that you go to worship at least once a week.

A question from Malaysia in Johor Baharu wondering whether we should meditate everyday or only occasionally?

Sit quietly everyday, preferably after you perform your morning puja and also after attending a temple puja and internalize the worship. External worship within a temple or a shrine and internal worship within yourself through attempts at meditation - this is the heart and core of the Saiva Siddhanta philosophy.

Whether you can control your mind or not, think about the energy within your body. That is coming right from God, right from Siva this very moment. Sit quietly, breathe deeply and as your thoughts go here, there and everywhere, the light that lights up those thoughts is quiet and it is coming right from Siva, this very moment.

Our pilgrim group has dwindled a bit as some have gone home, but still we have a lovely satsang every morning in the temple with people from all over the world coming together for worship in Siva's Paradise in Hawaii.
