Swami Buaji Maharaj, a long time friend and strong admirer of Gurudeva writes: ====================

"A saintly star has taken a celestial abode. Now it can bestow its blessings over a wider coverage.

"Gurudev Sivaya Subramuniyaswami who was listening ot Muruga was Loving Ganesha and who was dancing with Shiva has now merged with Shiva. Undoubtedly, Shiva must have kept a special place reserved for him.

"The sublime substance of Saiva Siddhanta was being succinctly and successfully spread all over the world by this saint. How was this possible for somebody who was born and brought up in a totally different culture? it could not be anything other than an unbreakable bondage from the previous birth „ poorva janma bandham. He came to this world 74 years ago and took off from where he left in the previous birth. He had done whatever was ordained by God and gone back now and merged with Him.

"The Kauai Aadheenam will continue his noble work. His books will speak for many, many more years. Iraivan temple will reverberate with his words for many more centuries. The spiritual awareness brought about by him among the Hindus of western countries is just amazing. Was it one of his Thiruvilayadals, game of the Gods with a noble moral, to make an alien spread the message of Saiva Siddhanta among the Hindus so that it will have more impact? Was it also to prove the point that geography or culture of a land of birth of a person does not totally decide upon what he is going to be or the point that a saint will emerge out of as a saint out of any situation?

"Gurudeva's unique method of explaining the most complex principles in the simplest way was astounding. That was how he could reach more and more people. He could imbibe an interest in the uninitiated person through his lucid and alluring writings in Hinduism Today. The most complicated philosophies appeared as the simplest and easiest messages in his hands, but with the same power and essence.

"Sri Sri Subramuniyawami was an embodiment of love and affection. He was teaching the way of life through the Sutra. The fragrance of his noble teachings was all pervading and will last eternally.

"Hindu philosophy defines life and death as two states of two levels of the same cycle. Simple mortals may not be able to understand this and they miss the ones who pass away. But saints make such a mark, a deep impression while alive, that their nonexistence physically is never felt or noticed. There will be a continuity and the connections will be at a higher strata.

"Gurudeva is now looking at us from a higher plane. The glow from him is lighting mankind with warmth and grandeur. We will try to recognize these rays and get benefitted and blessed. by them."

Bodhinatha has been giving some powerful talks lately. On this Sun one he spoke on the concept of "Moksha" and Self-Realization. He explained that we need to overcome the tendency to put it "far away" in our minds. Listen for it in the days ahead...today we finish up with the second part of his "Karma Management Seminar."

Title: Effective Karma Management Part 2
Category: Karma
Duration: 21 minutes, 21 seconds
Date Given: January 31, 2002
Date Posted: February_8_2002
Given by: Bodhinatha

Cybertalk: Review of part 1 plus... Fifth principle: create no negative karmas. Refrain from actions that will create negative karmas. Promise to. Sixth principle: Mitigate past karma. As long as we're creating karma, life is upset. When we stop, life calms down. We can make karma less severe by good behavior in the present; by helping others, karma yoga; worship, bhakti yoga, blessings of the Gods, worship which is intense enough; and penance, punishing yourself now, getting it over with so it won't come up in the future.

Our first planting of sunn hemp, on the monastery's newly acquired "Himalayan Acres" has just sprouted:

Sunn hemp, Crotalaria juncea, is related to beans--which is why it is nitrogen fixing. Note that "hemp" is a generic term for any plant whose fibrous stems may be used for rope. There are many kinds of "hemps". See http://www.uog.edu/cals/site/pubs/hemp/hemp.html for an item on sunn hemp--one of the world's best green manure crops.

These are close ups of 3 inch tall plants from seed that was only planted a few weeks ago. Crotalaria is widely used in India, planted on the land after rice harvest, ploughed back into the soil, used for rope...

Sunn hemp was initially discovered on Kauai where the seed must have traveled here from Asia. Later the plant was further developed by the University of Hawaii on other islands. But it has suffered from lack of publicity and shortage of seed. Some of its specs are:

Suppresses root-knot nematodes

134-147 pounds actual nitrogen added to soil at 60 days

Up to 6,000 pounds green matter per acre at 60 days, which means in lay terms -- it grows REALLY FAST!

Today was an important one for Chinnu. It was his wedding anniversary. He sends his love back to his wife in Chennai and had an archana in the temple to sanctify the occasion. Here he is in the Lombodara Kulam's new office.

The temple work proceeds well. Here is a good look at the main sanctum from where you would be if you entered the temple. The actual floor of the main temple hall will be about 1.5 feet above the foundation level and then the actual opening to the main sanctum will be another 4-5 feet up. This will allow worshippers in the back of the temple so see the arati and follows the ancient style of Chola temples where the main sanctum is raised up. Those who have been to the incredibly beautiful Kandasamy Temple in Singapore will have some idea of the height of the sanctum.

The work goes on....

Each course must be perfectly level and the stones perfectly "plumb," in order to properly support the 32 levels of stone that will take us to the top.

A long view of the temple in progress. Please give generously to help bring Gurudeva's vision into reality: the Wish-Fulfilling Temple... a place where the world comes to pray.
