Cybertalk: Ahimsa is a central principle in Hinduism. Let us take a look at the words we use in joking and teasing. These words are hurting. How do we know? Gurudeva gave us a 4-fold key about how our speech affects others. Do not harm others in thought, word or deed. Gossip and backbiting are very hurtful. A Wife gossiping dissipates the energy of family, affecting the family's and husband's success. Husbands also tease wives. Backbiting is talking about faults of others when we should be directed inward. We should be looking at our own faults, not others. The exception is in a situation where someone is responsible for pointing out and correcting another's faults, such as a teacher to his student or a parent to his child.

At Kauai Aadheenam, the monks don't hire servants for the regular household chores of life. We do it all ourselves. Our TAKA photographer was on vigil today from 12 Noon to 3 PM and chose his subjects from the immediate surroundings. At 12:30 PM at the end of the morning before lunch the monks do "Ashram Sadhana," and clean for half-an-hour. Here is Saravananathaswami dusting in the Guru Peedam.
Sadhaka Tyaganatha, who you have all seen as the priest in the Sun One Homa pictures, is also a master at sewing. Over the past week he has undertaken a massive project to re-do the awning over the front of Kadavul Temple. His heavy duty sewing machine has been moved to the courtyard where he has room to lay out the big pieces to the awning puzzle. Gurudeva encouraged all the monks to nurture an art form or a craft. Creating things, planting, building things, cooking, sewing, making your own furniture... working with hands to make beautiful and useful things is an important part of any spiritual lifestyle, keeping one well grounded at the same time one is engaged at other times in the depths of kundalini yoga meditations. It's also a lot of fun and you save a lot of money at the same time!
In the Guru temple we have this gold plated statue of Siva Yogaswami that has a perpetual lamp before it. We look forward to having something like this for Gurudeva in the future.
Yogaswami holds a small crystal in his hand, reminding us of the famous saying about a realized seer as being one "who holds truth in the palm of his hand."
In our temple we have an image of Ardhanarisvara, Siva of the half male, half female form.

Work continues at the temple site. Shanmuga Stapathi here carefully levels a stone in the back of the doorway of Iraivan.
Recently our youth and young adults in Malaysia were inspired to hold a "Family Day" which turned out to be a huge success.
Arvindraj who had come to Kauai on Task Force writes:
"A wonderful and happy Family Day. The main objectives were to foster harmony among our Church members and Himalayan Academy students. But beyond that, we could see that the elders (Kulapatis & Kulamatas) have begun to have a different perspective of the youth (including their own children). They began to realize that the youth were capable of carrying responsibility and therefore a higher level of trust was developing. Likewise the youth saw a more lighter & youthful side of the Kulapatis & Kulamatas. All this while, some of the youth had this idea that all Kulapatis & Kulamatas without exception were very strict. But having seen this lighter side of them & also after having included them in all our games & activities, the ice really broke and the elders & the youth started to mingle freely & all became closer. The feeling that we were all indeed one big happy family...the SSC Family permeated very strongly. In that kind of an atmosphere we could feel Gurudeva's presence & love flowing through everyone.We sincerely hope that we can maintain that kind of vibration throughout all our activities Saiva Siddhanta Church.
