Cybertalk: Ahimsa is a central principle in Hinduism. Let us take a look at the words we use in joking and teasing. These words are hurting. How do we know? Gurudeva gave us a 4-fold key about how our speech affects others. Do not harm others in thought, word or deed. Gossip and backbiting are very hurtful. A Wife gossiping dissipates the energy of family, affecting the family's and husband's success. Husbands also tease wives. Backbiting is talking about faults of others when we should be directed inward. We should be looking at our own faults, not others. The exception is in a situation where someone is responsible for pointing out and correcting another's faults, such as a teacher to his student or a parent to his child.

The Narayana Sthanam family from Birmingham, Alabama came to Hawaii to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. They decided that Kadavul Temple would be their first stop before moving on to the other islands.

Three more families from Queens, New York arrived who were taking their first "boat cruise." These are pundit families, originally from Guyana. They are avid readers of Hinduism Today and supporters of Iraivan temple. Granddad Pandit Laldharry Seerattan (next to Thondunathan in white) and his son have their own mandir in Queens, the Shri Devi Mandir.
Pandit Tillackdharry Seerattan (Laldharry's son, third from the left in the back) say they have a weekly congregation of 100-150 people and more on big festivals. He was proud to say all his children were well trained, could sing and chant. He and his wife Silochni have four children: Nandani, Gainmati, Nayrani and son Tulsidas. We have always found the Hindus from the Caribbean very enthusiastic about maintaining the Hindu culture and dharma.

Jim meets with Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami for a few minutes while he and Palaniswami discuss plans to print some beautiful posters to help raise money for Iraivan temple.
In Singapore, the members and students have formed the Nandinatha Sangam, an official body under Singapore laws, to conduct events and help fund raising for the Iraivan Temple. On 5th Jan 2002, Gurudeva's birthday, Nandinatha Sangam had their 1st project for this year, a seminar on Positive Discipline.
Speakers were Shantadevi & Sivakumar Saravan. The seminar was conducted in a very casual, relaxed and discussion manner at Ang Mo Kio Community Center between 4.00 to 7.00 pm.
During the discussion the participants openly and frankly shared their views about the problems and challengers faced in their daily life at home and at work place. They participated actively in the games related to Communication and Understanding children's behaviour. A sketch by Mr & Mrs. Sivakumar Saravan, made the seminar interesting with a small drama sketch. The seminar ended with some Teaching Tools and Techniques of Positive Discipline. Participants were happy and freely communicated with each other.
Thanks to all the participants, without you this seminar would not be a success, Shantadevi & Sivakumar Saravan to come out with this wonderful seminar, Sornavanita and Lavanya Saravan for the admin preparations, Sudha for the arrangement of refreshments, Kulapathi Dohadeva Samugam & Kulamata Nagavathy Samugam for their active participation and to all of them who have contribute in one way or the other. Thank you very much.

Thinking this morning a little about the Moksha ritau, the concept of realizing the Self and the perspectives related to that.
To draw an analogy - you know I love analogies - when you are travelling a lot, you come home and you are dreaming. What do you do? Quite often you dream about traveling. Right? You dream you are traveling and you are not home yet.
You are dreaming and dreaming and dreaming and dreaming. Then you wake up and say, "Oh, I was home the whole time. I was just dreaming that I was not home."
It is like realization. You are going along in the conscious mind, in this case. Dream is in the subconscious mind, of course. When we wake up, we are in the conscious mind. So in this case, we are in the conscious mind and we are thinking, "We are not realized, we are not realized, we are not realized, we are not realized, we are not home and then all of a sudden we wake up and say, "Oh, you know, I've been home the whole time!"
What does that mean? It means there is more than one sense of reality. When we are dreaming, our dream is real. Right? Totally real, we are certain that we are traveling and then as we get near waking up we start to doubt the reality of our dream, "Wait a minute, I think I have to go to work soon. Maybe I am dreaming."
We start to doubt the reality of what we have been experiencing as we start to come out of this. Then, we wake up and we are in a different reality in the conscious plane and say, "Oh, I was home all the time and I have to go to work. Glad I woke up."
We are used to dealing with two different realities all the time, our dream state and our waking state. If we take the waking state as the dream and the realization of Parasiva as waking up, that is the analogy. We are going along in the conscious mind, we are going, we are going, we are going, we are going, and we are moving closer and closer to the Self. Then one day, we are going to get there. It is like we are going to get home. When you wake up by realizing it, you say, "Oh, you know, I was there all the time."
That is the thought for the morning on moksha. We are there all the time.
