"The island is filled with sadness today as we are to loose one of the most important contributors to our island, Satguru Sivaya Subramuniyaswami reverently spoken of as Gurudeva, leader of the Hindu Monastery in Wailua.

There is a realization that Gurudeva will no longer grace this island as the last impending days and hours grow nearer and as he prepares to pass on to The Creator. His wonderful physical presence will no longer be experienced on our beautiful island that he loves so much. His spirit will always hold a presence on this island because he has given so much of his spirit to Kauai.

He has touched the hearts and minds of all that have come in contact with him and his wonderful followers. All that have been fortunate enough to have met him and know him and his work ask, "What can we do for this man that has done so much for us, our island and the world?"

He is family - ohana -- to many of us that have left family miles away. He is inspiration to the many of pure hearts longing for peace and love in their lives. He is an example to the world of true acceptance and unconditional love - One God, One World. One Island, Many Peoples, All Kaua`ians. Aloha: It's Kauai's Spirit

He will be terribly missed but his work will be carried on. His passing will create "grief's valleys." So many people love him and will find it difficult not to feel this great loss."

We were blessed today with the arrival of Swami Pragyanand who has been visiting the Aadheenam to see Gurudeva many times through the years. When he was a young brahmachari in yellow and struggling with his mission work in early years, Gurudeva befriended and guided him along. He followed Gurudeva's advice and through the years has become one of India's prominent spiritual leaders. Here he speaks tearfully of missing Gurudeva, but affirms that Gurudeva will live on with an even more powerful influence than ever.

Cybertalk: If the manifestation of karma is inevitable, who do parents need to discipline their children at all? If something is in the child's karma and it's going to manifest inevitably, why not let what is going to happen just happen? This is a 16-17-year-old asking, and it's really a great philosophical question. Karma can manifest in a number of ways. Example of physical injury. The Karma is to break a leg because of actions in the past. How karma manifests depends on how you live. Ordinary life, karma will manifest in its grossest form, breaking the leg. If you live a refined life, karma will come in a more refined way, such as a lot of bruises. If you live a religious life, karma will come in a very refined way. Example of TV news, famous person breaking leg, and we can take on the emotion of it and identify with it intensely if that was in our karma. This way we are going through the karma in a very subtle way. Karma manifests according to how you live.
