Hindu Year 5104: Chitrabhanu, the "Year of Varied Splendors"

In 2000 Gurudeva went to the Caribbean. The group of Innersearchers traveling with him were not prepared to see 1000's of Hindu's coming to greet him at the dock. Some only later said: "My goodness, little did we realize how well Gurudeva is known, loved and respected around the world."

Countdown to Innersearch Kauai 2002 is 12 days. Three seats still open. Contact our tour agent if you want to join us: pilgrim@searchbeyond.com

Title: Non-stealing or Non-coveting Part 3
Category: Yamas and Niyamas
Duration: 10 minutes, 12 seconds
Date Given: June 11, 2002
Date Posted: July_5_2002
Given by: Bodhinatha

Cybertalk: Bodhinatha discusses how to harness desire and conquering the tendency to steal or covet by doing its opposite, giving, which is the niyama of dana. Giving brings true happiness, as opposed to the emptiness of hoarding. Giving can be taken even further by spiritualizing our household finances. Bodhinatha gives several examples of how to do this and finishes with some thoughts on the environment and what we could be stealing from future generations by passing on an unclean Earth without solutions or funds to clean it up.

As we get closer to the Innersearch the staff is busy getting ready. Our publications team is performing an age old tradition: collating pages of a short run publication. In this case it is the Innersearch 2002 Kauai Study Guide. The photographer hears remarks from the old timers "Wow, it's been a long time since we did this. I remember collating 1000's of copies of the Master Course back in the 70's in the Mountain Desert Monastery in Virginia City." Some things never change.

Today is Sun Two and the Jyotisha display is returned to cover the fire altar until next Sun One's homa. This is a board which has the twelve houses marked on it, 1-12 (blue lines on the lower most board) then on top of that is another board that spins on its center, this has the signs of the zodiac marked on it (black lines). Then Paramacharya Ceyonswami places small colored balls which represent the planets and the Sun and the Moon, into their positions according to where they actually are now. Today we have three planets that have just changed signs; Venus to Leo, Mars and Jupiter both to Cancer, so if you've been feeling the winds of change in the air, now you know why.

Our Nawiliwili tree is blooming again as it does every year. We never cease to marvel at the elegant and simple perfection of its very formal flowers. Quite precisely at around 9 am in the morning their nectar flows for a short while and the bees will come, right on time.

The path and stream down to the river. Many years of work and monthly upkeep manage to stay the jungle which would otherwise engulf this area in a few months.

Shanmugam Sthapati marks another stone indicating where it should carved.

This small lower portion of the stone (which will be facing down later) needs some ornamental work on the exterior. Most of the ornamental carving is done in Bangalore, but at the point where two stones meet, it is often necessary to leave that carving to the jointing team at the time of assembly. Only they will be able to make the carving of the adjacent pieces line up just perfectly. Here Sthapati begins by finding the center of this circular area, then from the drawing radiuses out from the center and down the face. Markings will indicated both areas to be left raised and points along which stone should be removed. In this case the points from the radius remain raised and the short line between them on the face indicates the center of the material to be removed... this will require some very sharp chisels and a gentle hand... and will take a few days to complete.

The roof of the temple will be approximately where the edge of the tent is as you see it here and will run out from the joint between the 15th and 16th courses.
