 Yogaswami sang: "Holy Ash and Panchakshara, we want! Vel! Vel!" (Panchakshara means "Five Letters" and refers to the phrase "Namasivaya," "Salutations to Siva". And holy ash and panchakshara were a daily theme for Gurudeva. We know of days on tours when Gurudeva sat for hours and put vibhuti on the forehead of 1000's of devotees who would stream by!

Gurudeva's sishya, Mr. and Mrs. Loganathan and Yatrikadevi Shivam from Los Angeles are here on a pilgrimage for sadhana and quality time together at Kauai Aadheenam. Loganathan runs the fabulous "Koan Gallery" which sells imported artifacts from Asia. Here he discussed with Paramacharya Palaniswami and Acharya Kumarswami a project to get a new and special door for our publications building made in Bali.
Loganathan is intimately familiar with the details of all kinds of Asian craftsmanship and artwork. Here he explains how teak doors are usually very heavy and traditionally made as two doors that open out from the center... making a single 36 inch wide door will be a bit of a change as it would be a very heavy piece.
Palaniswami explains how we hope to upgrade our small plain lanai entry way to carry a more "Hindu face" and cultural vibration.
Finally dimensions are settled on, 8 inch wide frames on both sides with a taller header which will be carved with traditional Maha Kala symbol and a 36 inch door that hinges on the left to open outward. These doors are usually ornately carved on the front and left plain on the inside.
Loganathan and Yatrika send their pranams to everyone looking in to TAKA today. Originally from Iran, they become Hindus many years ago. Archeologists have found ruins in ancient Iran that indicate the people there practiced the Vedic Fire ceremonies as the altars and even implements of worship found match exactly what is being used by Hindu priests in India today.
Mahendra and Renuka Shah, originally from Gujarat. Since the Shahs were talking to their children about how wonderful it would be to visit Kauai and spend some time here at the monastery, the children decided to surprise their parents by giving them an all expanse paid trip to Kauai as a gift for mother and fathers' day. Mahendra and Renuka felt blessed to be here.
Artist Leonora Orr who lives on Kauai came to visit today. She hopes to spend some time painting scenes around the temple and throughout San Marga, and perhaps do something that will be a contribution to the temple and our work. She shares her work with Paramacharya Palaniswami and presents a formal request for permission to come to paint here.
Leonora has a unique and colorful style with a touch of mysticism behind her captivating colors. She spent time in Africa, studied art at the Sorbonne in Paris, spent many years in Africa speaks French, Swahili, SiSwati, Pidgin English and Fe'fe.
Waves that remind us of the subtle inner blue colors that Gurudeva often describe as being there in the inner mind.
This painting captures well the feeling we often get when standing in the bright sunlight looking out on our precious and beautiful Garden lsland homeland.
