 This wonderful song by Siva Yogaswami describes the life in Siva consciousness that Gurudeva worked so hard to inspire his devotees to follow and which he clarified and preserved in writing through his books: "We are the servitors of Siva. No harm will befall us, if without forgetting we meditate on the holy mantram that we have neither beginning nor end, neither birth or death, neither day nor night, neither happiness nor sorrow. What you contemplate, that you become. Persistent spiritual effort is necessary. Do not become discouraged. Those who fail to toil will not reap any reward. No pains, no gains is a familiar saying in the world. Perserver until you suceed. Why do you constantly ponder on unworthy pursuits? Banish these futile intents and worship God with a full heart. Accept joyfully and carry out whatever is dispensed to you. In the end everything will lead you to success. Perform cheerfully whatever work and duties are assigned to you, and be convinced that everthing that happens is for the best. It is so. You may even ignore these things altogether. Both courses are acceptable. Your liberation does not depend on action or inaction. Do not desire to be free of action. Do not become attached to action. Devote yourself to that which naturally befalls you, whether it involves action or inaction." Siva Yogaswami

Cybertalk: Bodhinatha talks today on how important smooth interpersonal relationships are to the meditator. If our relationships with others are in poor shape, they will come up from our subconscious mind and prevent us from meditating. We can't avoid other people, though. The solution lies in working to get along, to resolve differences, and to mystically work within ourselves on that which we don't like in others.

Here is the panel at the symposium. Others who met privately with Bodhinatha also sent their testimony of their first meeting with the current living Satguru of the Kailasa Parampara:
"Thank you for the e-mail and invitation, we did drive to Pittsburg and listened and had very nice meeting with Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami this June 22, 2002. It was my good fortune and privilege to have had the opportunity to meet him and had nice guidance and exchange of views. He spoke and guided us about various levels of consciousness."
We had a wonderful Sun One Homa today. In the absence of our Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami we installed the sacred Paduka (sandals) at his seat by the home fire.
We are in the middle of a long series of "Sivaloka" days on our Hindu calendar when the portals to the inner worlds are wide open.

Afterwards everyone comes forward to touch the sandals. While the Guru is away, the monastics are to continue to act as if he were here in their midst, to serve his meals, and prostrate daily.
Thomas Hadwin came today. A recent addition to Kauai's family, he is getting involved with a group on the island that is planning ways to use the various media (Internet, TV, radio and newspapers) to promote the island's spirit of Aloha. Since the monastery is also involved in contributing to our local community and fostering the Aloha spirit that Gurudeva held so dear, we're continuing to explore ways to work with other community leaders to implement the spiritual vision Gurudeva and many others have for the future of our special island.
The young man in this photo is Andrew Corns, age 22, from Britain. He is on Kauai for a few months as part of traveling around the world. He plans to go to India for the first time as part of his travels. Through visiting our monastery complex, he is starting to really learn about Hinduism for the first time.
Meanwhile our three-day full moon retreat was full of "alternative" activities with all the monks getting out of the office and doing different things. We painted the foundation of Iraivan with red and white stripes (pictures tomorrow) and we also "extracted" a colony of wild bees from the back of a small storage shed. Here Sannyasin Sivakatirswami one of our veteran bee keepers is introducing Sadhaka Jivanandanatha to the amazing process. They have just removed the siding of the outside wall and exposed a four-foot square space full of bee comb. A profession bee hive is waiting in the wings to receive them.
Paramacharya Palaniswami, intrepid photographer that he is came on the scene to record the moment for posterity... without a bee suit on! A quick zoom in on the brood comb where the queen has been laying eggs before the bee started chasing him away. This was actually a very strong and old colony that had been working inside this wall for several years.
They were not too happy about being moved from the wall into the box, but we only got stung a few times before the operation was over.
Sadhaka Jivanandanatha has just recently been "smitten" with the "bee bug" which is to say that once you look inside a colony of bees and see the living heart of nature that close up, you will never be the same. It's really a wonderful experience, even with the "injections" of bee "spirit" that, are always enlivening to the system.
