Cybertalk: Bodhinatha continues today with the yamas, the Vedic restraints, with number three, nonstealing, neither stealing, nor coveting nor entering into debt. Though the grossest form of asteya, stealing other people's possessions or money, is probably not a challenge to those of us listening, the more subtle area of entering into debt is a big problem for most people these days. Debt that is of a reasonable amount and is paid back within the agreed upon period of time is okay, but regularly spending beyond one's means, living on credit cards, purchasing on credit without thought of how to afford the bill, gambling and unfounded speculation are all abuses that are restrained and corrected by following the yama of nonstealing.

The Guptas first met Gurudeva in 1979 at the Paschima Kasi Vishvanatha temple and has been keeping in touch ever since. Vipul came with his parents to the monastery when he was 15 years old, nearly 15 years ago.
Now he is married to Shikha and came to receive Bodhinatha's blessings since they are expecting their first child in the months to come.
May they have a long and happy life and wonderful family!
They really loved to visit the serene outdoor Swayambhu Siva Lingam site on San Marga
Amma Shashi kept saying how blessed she is to be here for she can feel Siva's presence very strongly.

Today we were also visited by a large group comprised of the families of three brothers originally from Tamil Nadu. There are also three other visitors in this photo on the left who joined in for the tour.
Everyone comes forward for blessings receiving vibhuti from Bodhinatha..
Sacred ash is the traditional prasadam to be received from a sannyasin. The ash signifies the blessing of purification of the bonds of ego, results of actions and delusion: anava, karma, maya... leading to final liberation
The three brothers are Alagu Annaamalai and Alagappan whose families live in California and attend the Shiva Murugan Temple in the San Francisco Bay Area, and A. Alagappan whose family lives in Texas and attends the Meenakshi Temple outside Houston. They all coordinated to vacation in Hawaii together and they arrived in Kauai yesterday with much anticipation to visit our monastery and temple site.
They all really enjoyed identifying all the sacred flowers, trees and plants which they had last seen as young children in India, and the adults chatted away in Tamil with the silpis at the Iraivan Temple construction site. The three brothers all hail from the Karaikkudi area of South India and discovered that a couple of the silpis also come from that area. The children especially enjoyed collecting leftover pieces of granite stone to take home and sorting through freshly fallen rudraksha seeds
Next we took them down to the river, the boys tried skipping stones at the edge of the Wailua River and dipping their feet in the water, while the adults foraged for fresh guava fruits a few feet away.
This area we call Bali Hai has a water falls where the stream that passes through San Marga finally pours into the Wailua River... it is a beautiful and very special spot which is directly below the Iraivan temple site.
The families are all readers of Hinduism Today magazine and toured through the magazine's offices where they got a sneek peak at the next issue being created.
Paramacharya Palaniswami talked to the group about the article on corporal punishiment the up-and-coming issue of Hinduism Today. The brothers proudly stated that they had never been beaten by their parents, though, unfortunately, the said that they were sometimes beaten in school.

The silpis were really overjoyed to be able to talk to some Hindu pilgrims who were so connected with our tradition.
The silpis are woking very hard now to get the course 11 up and in place for viewing during the coming Innersearch and Guru Purnima celebrations.
The stone we featured yesterday still needed work and was rolled back for more leveling by chipping off another layer from its base.
