Hindu Year 5104: Chitrabhanu, the "Year of Varied Splendors"

Skanda Shasti, Day 4, Lord Muruga's time of year.... Gurudeva writes:

"The Gods are the controllers of these force centers within man. They live in the innermost areas of form. To enter the muladhara chakra, the aspirant must go through Lord Ganesha. And when the aspirant progresses to the manipura chakra, Ganesha will introduce him to Lord Muruga. Once this is accomplished, the devotee will worship Lord Muruga as the Be-All and End-of-All, just as Ganesha was worshiped when consciousness was in His chakras. Lord Muruga is the controller of the manipura chakra, the chakra of willpower, and the two chakras above it, direct cognition and universal love. Now we can begin to see that the aspirant has to proceed in consciousness through the three chakras that Lord Muruga controls and meet all the tests before this God will introduce him to Lord Siva."

Pictures of the actual "Pada" of Gurudeva.... These were taken by Manivelu when he was here at Kauai Aadheenam and he has recently emailed them to us. Yogaswami writes:

""What infinite varieties are seen as the Dance of the One, whose gracious Feet be my unfailing Guide, Aum."

Gurudeva writes:

"The yamas and niyamas are the core of Hindu disciplines and restraints for individuals, groups, communities and nations. In fact, they outline various stages of the path in the development of the soul, leading out of the marul pada into the arul pada, from confusion into grace, leading to the feet of the satguru, as the last five practices indicate--siddhanta shravana, mati, vrata, japa and tapas. "

A retrospective shot from our recent week long Mahasamadhi observances: We brought a group of pilgrims into the publications building for many of them had not see our facility. Here Sivakatirswami, using a world map, show the global reach of Hinduism Today and points out the locations of sevaks, correspondents, distributors etc in various countries, all of whom, working together help the monks push Gurudeva's mission forward. "And in London is Darmaguhan who manages the search engine on our server in San Diego and in Malaysia we have Sivaneswaran who is the web master for hheonline.org and in Chennai Sheela is receiving transcripts of audio from Asha in California and Sheela sends those transcripts to Hawaii.... Thomas Kelly in Nepal sends photos and Rajiv Malik in New Delhi is our correspondent there..... Hinduism Today leaves the printer in Missouri, is shipped to New York and airlifted to New Delhi and readers in Bombay will get their magazine about the same time as readers in California...." Many were quite amazed that from our remote position in the middle of the Pacific that we had such a vast network of collaborators.

Skanda Shasti is always a time for quiet inner reflection. Temperatures are dropping down into the 70's now as we head toward winter. Cool, crisp. The monks are hard at work but with the last issue of Hinduism Today out the door and our recent big events completed, there is a general winding down... time for re-organizing and re-visioning the next phase of productivity.

The latest addition to the Ganapati Kulam is "Puli" which means "Tiger" in Tamil. He is only about 9 weeks old. A new breed called "Bengali" due to markings that are similar to the Bengal tiger, they were only recently developed from actual wild cats and a leopard.

Highly intelligent and very much a people cat he loves to be with the monks as they work. Also he not afraid of strangers. But he doesn't really like other cats very much, so we brought him to live at the press shop. It seems he has worn himself out playing wildly on the floor. Time for a nap.

Title: Who Answers our Prayers?
Category: God and Lords of Dharma
Duration: 1 min., 28 seconds

A question from a cyberspace devotee - "Who answers our prayers? Is it the Self within or is it a deity?"

First of all, there are many prayers you can answer yourself. You don't have to depend on anyone but, yourself. Not the Gods, not the devas, but just you. Put forth a little effort, answer your own prayers.

There are some things, however, that we cannot do so easily by ourselves and we need help. In the inner world, there are many, many helpers. All the Gods have thousands, tens of thousands of deva people - devas are angels - to help the devotees, give them direction, and answer their prayers.

This magical Kadavul Hindu Temple, on the garden island of Kauai, has a connection between the three worlds. Daily prayers are offered to the Gods and the devas, through the sacred fire here. They come in on fax, they come in on email and devotees write their prayers and leave them in a basket. Through Sanskrit chanting and mantrams, they are offered to the Gods and the prayers are answered.
