"To the Hindu the ground is sacred. The rivers are sacred. The sky is sacred. The sun is sacred. His wife is a Goddess. Her husband is a God. Their children are devas. Their home is a shrine. Life is a pilgrimage to liberation from rebirth, and no violence can be carried to the higher reaches of that ascent. While nonviolence speaks only to the most extreme forms of wrongdoing, ahimsa, which includes not killing, goes much deeper to prohibit the subtle abuse and the simple hurt. Rishi Patanjali described ahimsa as the great vow and foremost spiritual discipline which Truth-seekers must follow strictly and without fail. This extends to harm of all kinds caused by one's thoughts, words and deeds--including injury to the natural environment. Even the intent to injure, even violence committed in a dream, is a violation of ahimsa. Vedic rishis who revealed dharma proclaimed ahimsa as the way to achieve harmony with our environment, peace between peoples and compassion within ourselves. The Vedic edict is: "Ahimsa is not causing pain to any living being at any time through the actions of one's mind, speech or body." Aum Namah Sivaya."

Title: Saiva Siddhanta, a Path of Knowing Thyself

Cybertalk: Bodhinatha is getting ready for his trip to Toronto, Canada. His talk is titled "Saiva Siddhanta: A Path of Knowing Thyself". In summary: Saiva Siddhanta focuses on both devotion to God and meditation. Siva Yogaswami was both deeply devotional and profoundly yogic. He would say "Know Thyself by thyself." We are not our mind, body or emotion. The modern world teaches us just the opposite, but who is teaching us that we are a spiritual being? Both Yogaswami and Gurudeva had many quotes on this subject.

They had a wonderful chat with Bodhinatha sharing stories of early childhood pilgrimages and how they felt Iraivan is the ideal pilgrimage spot for the west. Srilakshmi is also thinking of joining Bodhinatha on the Indian Odyssey as she will be in Bangalore next January.

Our early summer days are so bright... we take you now on a short tour of the immediate vicinity around the monastery and Kadavul Hindu Temple. Here we are at the Nandi Mandapam.

Nandi looks into the temple, directly into the eye of Lord Nataraja.

The morning Siva puja is always a scintillating spiritual event.

Leaving the temple we come along the path going out to San Marga....

Passing by the courtyard where the monks eat and hold group meetings... Tirumular on the left and Tiruvalluvar on the right.

A look back at the monastery...

From the South we see the side of Kadavul Hindu Temple and the Guru peedam immediate adjacent on the left where pilgrims go when they request darshan with Satguru Bodhinatha Veylanswami.

Another look at the monastery.

moving away now toward San Marga...

Here is the end of the Guru Peedam structure...inside here every morning all the monks gather for their deep group meditation of the day. On the right is an outdoor Ganesha side shrine of Kadavul temple.

On our way to San Marga

The colors are so clear and bright!

Title: Worry
Category: The Mind
Duration: 4 min., 58 seconds
Date Given: February 21, 1999
Given By: Gurudeva

Today at Kauai Aadheenam. February 21st. Greetings, everyone in cyberspace! We are very happy to talk to you.

I am talking today to those of you who are worried about yourself. When you worry about yourself, you begin to create what you worry about. When you create what you worry about, then you'll worry about that and create something else in your life to worry about. If you really want to worry about something practical, worry about the environment. The environment is affecting the whole planet, the entire planet. Not enough trees, not enough water, not enough food. Concern yourself with the environment.

All of our cyberspace devotees, I know you have a computer because we are communicating through this instrument. Just type in 'environment'. See what you get. You can begin to extend your worry into something practical. The worry then becomes a concern. What you are concerned about, you act upon. Then, what happens? You forget your self, your personal self. Your individual worries and fears all fly away. Meditate on the environment. Find out as much as you can about the environment and do what little you can do to help. If you are lonely, join an environmental group and that environmental group will help you forget about you, and your loneliness will go away.

There are a lot of lonely people in all the big cities in the world today. A lonely person is to be helped. But no one can help a lonely person but the lonely person himself, or herself. Get involved.

I have attended several big conferences. One in Moscow, another in Rio De Janeiro, where scientists, religious leaders, and political leaders all gathered together to discuss the possibility that maybe, just maybe, very soon humankind will be on the endangered species list, right along with birds and fish and animals. Rather embarrassing, but we can do something about it. Each individual has to make it his or her concern. That is the message for today.

Yesterday, we attended a cyberspace conference and presented what we do on the World Wide Web to a group of experts in the Internet world and the world of high-end software. It was a wonderful experience. We took four or five mathavasis and gave a talk about how 'Today At Kauai Aadheenam' is produced and our entire website, which is I would say, the biggest in the state of Hawaii and brings in more people from more countries to the state of Hawaii, than any other web site that we know of at the current time. It was a very nice experience.

Today, here at Kauai Aadheenam, is Visitor's Day. Beautiful families of Indian origin sat with me, devotees of Satya Sai Baba. Devotees of various temples, they have come from Canada and other parts of the United States. We were so happy to see them, to welcome them. We welcome you tomorrow to tune into Cyberspace Ashram.

Aum Namah Sivaya.
