It is spring break and a lot of families showed up quite late today at the temple. Mom, Dad and all the kids and teenagers who have two weeks free from school.
In talking with one family, the common "problem" was brought up of getting religion into your "real" life. The answer is very simple. Set aside a period each morning, at least five days a week. Gurudeva re-iterates the age-old tradition:
"Devout Hindus perform daily vigil, called sandhya upasana, usually before dawn. This sacred period of puja, japa, chanting, singing, hatha yoga, meditation and scriptural study is the foundation of personal life. Aum."
Here is Bodhinatha at the Northern California Mission Satsang in California.
Bodhinatha's next journey is brief, on the weekend of April 3-4 in the San Francisco Bay Area of northern California. He will visit with Saiva Siddhanta Church members and Himalayan Academy Students.
We don't have much to report from the trip other than that away team sent an email saying they arrived safe and sound after an easy journey. Now, you can check yourself into a flight via the web in advance, saving lots of time at the airport.
At the Aadheenam today, this is the last day of our phase and the Ganapati Kulam shared news of the work in progress:
It is the end of the second month of our Hinduism Today production cycle and the major focus these past five days has been on wrapping up 1/3 of the articles for the July-August-September issue. Some interesting articles that came together were on Hindu concepts in movies, a review of a book "Mad Cowboy", and more.
One interesting area has been a focus on Bodhinatha's Publisher's desk and our Insight section on "Anger Management," with lots of research... stay tuned if you have trouble with your temper. ;-)
Work is also in progress on the completion of the Saivite Hindu Children's Course, Book Three which will go to press in Malaysia next month, if all goes well.
Our team has also been tackling some IT issues with respect to spam control and getting grip on email abuse from outside sources that are impacting our list services to legitimate subscribers. If some of you are not getting your daily master course email lessons or sacred verses.... we are working on it. Meanwhile get out your printed copy of the Trilogy to stay current with your daily lessons.
We are closing in a web collaboration site and internet savvy applications for sevaks helping with transcribing Gurudeva's Inspired Talk Archive library (code name "GITA") in beta now with four sevaks... sishya and students stay tuned to Sat News if you would like to help in this area. We'll be making an announcement there when we are ready to take on more players to the team.
Yatrika Ajaya listens intently to Bodhinatha's talk.

We continue with more delightful photos from our last trip to India. Here are Mr. and Mrs. Mark and Lindsay Boyer from New York. They have virtually no contact with us prior to the journey.
But they had been to India before, and when they saw in a copy of Hinduism Today that we had an itinerary planned for South India, they called to ask about it, thinking they would travel on their own and follow the same route. Sadhaka Dandapani encouraged them to join us instead saying so many more doors and experiences would open up if they traveled with Bodhinatha.
Having them with us was a great boon, because, especially Mark, was perhaps the most articulate query master we have ever met. Not knowing much about Hinduism or who we are prompted him to naturally ask us all sorts of questions and this drew out a great deal from the monks and Bodhinatha that enriched our journey greatly. Mark is made a success in the imaging business in New York and is now working with high-end imaging for a conservation project in New York as well as in Africa. Lindsay is a Christian minister who no longer serves in a particular church but has devoted her life to helping people who are finding themselves cut of from religion entirely, who have lost their spiritual community and roots. Lindsay wants to help them get back on the spiritual path. And she is writing a book on Prayer.
Thank you both for coming and being who you are!
Yolanda Lozano is a student of the daily Master Course email lessons but had not yet been to Kauai, but only discovered us on the internet.
She had never been to India and always wanted to go and felt this was the ideal opportunity to do so.
It can be challenging to be immersed so suddenly in a totally different culture but Yolanda came through with flying colors as you can see!
We have these precious photos of the great saint, Trichyswami in Bangalore who has not been too well of late, yet he graciously received our whole group.
Trichyswami and his Kailas Ashram have been 100% supportive of the Iraivan Temple project from the beginning and were very important to helping open up and guide development of the carving site outside of Bangalore.
Here we are giving him the 2003 Hindu of the Year Award placque, presented by Bodhinatha to him and his successor Jeyendra Puri Swami.

Cybertalk: After reading an e-mail from a devotee about a dream of Gurudeva, Bodhinatha tells us about a movie based on reincarnation called Audrey Rose, made in 1977, which the monks just watched as research for a Hinduism Today article on Hindu concepts in the movies. Bodhinatha then reads some recent Master Course lessons about reincarnation and brings in the very interrelated concept of karma. We reincarnate because of our karma, and we keep reincarnating until all our karmas are resolved. Bodhinatha talks about action, reaction, creating and resolving karma and how it relates to how we face what comes to us, as well as the broader concept of Hindu view of life, which is that its purpose is to make spiritual progress.
